Residents ‘can’t sleep’ as rock music blasting out 15 miles away makes walls RATTLE

People living 15 miles away from a major music festival[1] have complained that they cannot sleep as their walls shake and rattle at night.

Residents of towns and villages such as Long Eaton, Matlock and Hallam in Derbyshire have said the four-day Download Festival[2], which began on Thursday and ends tomorrow, at Donington Park in Leicestershire has been keeping them up at night.

Derbyshire Police confirmed they had received a number of complaints about the noise coming from the rock festival in a neighbouring county, reports the Manchester Evening News[3].

Some residents took to social media to report that the loud music was bothering them, with one asking: "Is it Download you can hear around Kirk Hallam this evening, or is it someone living out their rock and roll dreams on the back garden?"

One reply agreed, saying: "It's amazing, could actually hear Metallica singing."

A person added: "I was at Download and my family messaged the song Metallica were playing at the time they were right lol."

Another resident said: "This is crazy. My walls are rattling during the Metallica set. Free gig I suppose."

One more added: "I was just going to say who's playing music at this time on a school night - glad I'm away for the weekend."

Another wrote in the Facebook[5] group 'Spotted Long Eaton': "Does anyone have the lineup times for Download today? I don't want to miss listening to some awesome bands from my garden lol."

Download Festival features big names in rock and heavy metal music such as Metallica, but there have been critics this year, with some people reporting hearing the music nearly 15 miles away in Heage, 12 miles away in Hilton and 10 miles away in Mackworth.

But not everyone was sympathetic, with one of the comments saying: "Imagine living close by to a race track and an airport but crying into your cereal about a bit of music."

Festival organisers have already had to apologise for traffic experienced by festival-goers on the surrounding roads and M1 motorway as they travelled to the event.

A Derbyshire Police spokesperson said: "We are receiving a number of calls from residents concerned about noise from the Download Festival.

"Download Festival is an annual music event held at Donington Park near Castle Donington in Leicestershire.

"We're not able to help with concerns about noise, but North West Leicestershire District Council have provided information around what residents can expect, and what to do if you feel you are experiencing unreasonable noise levels."

The Mirror has contacted Download Festival for comment.
