Police take untaxed van and trailer in poor state off M5

Officers pulled the driver over on the motorway yesterday (Thursday, June 8) and found a number of reasons to take them off the road.

The tax had not been paid on the van for nine months since last September.

And a prohibition order taking it off the road was issued because of the poor state of the trailer.

Officers discovered the bodywork was in poor condition, the braking system was defective and the electrics were not hooked up to operate the rear lights.

A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police's roads policing unit tweeted: "This vehicle and trailer were seized on the M5 today (Thursday) as tax had expired in September.

"A prohibition was issued due the condition of the trailer. Bodywork in poor condition, had a defective braking system and no electrics hooked up to operate the rear lights.

"Driver reported for offences."
