Police investigating hot air balloon crash death issue appeal for …
Police are appealing for video footage after a man died in a hot air balloon crash on Sunday (June 25). Peter Gregory, 25, was pronounced dead by paramedics after the balloon he was piloting deflated and fell to the ground in Ombersley, Worcestershire.
At around 6.20am, the balloon fell to the ground in a field off Holt Fleet Road, near Ombersley Court. West Mercia Police, in partnership with the Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB), has now issued an appeal for anyone with footage of the incident to contact officers.
Officers and the AAIB are asking anyone who was in the area at the time and may have dashcam or mobile phone footage of the incident to get in touch. West Mercia Police has urged people not to share any footage on social media out of respect for Mr Gregory’s family.
A police statement said: “Anyone with footage is asked to send it to DC Tracy Ruff at [email protected][2], quoting incident number 117i of 25 June 2023. We would ask that the privacy of Peter’s family is respected at this difficult time, and that all footage is sent directly to us and not posted on social media.”
Following the crash[3], Mr Gregory’s family have paid tribute to him[4]. Their statement said: “Peter Gregory, 25 years of living life to the full.[5] On the morning of Sunday 25th June, our Pilot Pete took one last flight, doing what he loved.
“Be it in a hot air balloon or as an Airline Pilot, Peter’s passion for flying was something his family and friends could only admire and support him towards. When he set his heart to something, he’d never give up, he was driven and determined, and one could only watch on in awe.
“We will fly together again soon Pete. We love you, Dan, Mummy, Daddy and Emma. During this difficult time, please respect the privacy of friends and family.”
