New toll prices on Ireland’s motorways as Cork to Dublin and Waterford routes hiked
Both the M8 and N25 tolls will be hiked, the Department of Transport has confirmed.
TII say the increase will come in from July 1 – with all of Ireland’s toll roads seeing an increase. This comes at the end of a six-month deferment put in place by the government.
There are ten toll roads in Ireland, with each having different prices attached to them. The hikes will affect Cork motorists who use the M8, M7 and N25 – with car charges going up to €2.10 from €2.
The same increase will also be applied to the M1, N6, and N18 while the M3 will go from €1.50 to €1.60. The M50 in Dublin will also go up by 30c for cars without tags to €3.50. Those with tags will be charged €2.90 up from €2.70.
These tolls were increased in line with the Consumer Price Index, which saw an increase of 8.6% year on year. Under this model, tolls cannot be increased above inflation.
A spokesperson for the Department of Transport said: “The Government’s six-month deferment of toll increases will conclude on June 30th and standard regulated toll in line with the inflationary increase will take effect on July 1st. All tolls on the national road network are regulated through inflation (CPI) and cannot go above inflation.”
Transport Infrastructure Ireland has confirmed that all revenue generated from tolls is used for things such as motorway maintenance, toll collection and operations, and the maintenance of the wider national road network.
