M4: When will Berkshire motorway roadworks be finished?
According to the National Highways website, the upgrade is costing £848million and was due to be complete last year.
The roadworks have caused lane closures and full road closures for several years, but it is nearing completion.
Junction 7 (near Slough):
- Westbound slip road (Huntercombe Spur) will reopen on June 10, 2023. It has been closed since November.
Junction 10 (near Winnersh):
- Link closure from A329M southbound to M4 eastbound due to be complete on July 6, 2023. This stretch of road has has roadworks since March last year.
- M4 westbound Jct 10. Entry slip road closed until July 7, 2023. This slip road has had lane closures since June last year.
Junction 12 (near Theale):
- Slip road and lane closures in both directions, at Junction 12, for technology work. Roads will reopen on June 10.
- The road has seen lane closures between Junction 12 and 13 since May. This is due to be completed by June 14.
In a statement on its website, National Highways said: “We’re improving the M4 between junction 3 at Hayes and junction 12 at Theale by upgrading it to a smart motorway.
“This means there will be an additional lane for traffic which will increase capacity and reduce congestion, more technology on the road to smooth traffic flows and manage incidents and more reliable journey times.”
