M25 live traffic updates as crash near Chertsey leads to five-mile queues

There are long delays on the M25 in Surrey this evening (Saturday, June 24) after a crash near Chertsey. The collision initially led to the closure of three lanes on the anti-clockwise carriageway.

National Highways warned at around 6.45pm that there were queues of five miles. Traffic cameras showed traffic to be near-stationary between junctions 10 and 11.

National Highways said in its first update on the incident: "Three lanes (of 4) are closed on the M25 anti-clockwise between J11 #Chertsey[1] and J10 (#A3[2]) due to a collision. There is approx. 5 miles of congestion which is adding around half an hour to normal journey times."

Traffic monitoring service Inrix reported "severe delays" on the route. It said: "Severe delays, queueing traffic for four miles and two lanes closed due to accident on M25 anticlockwise between J11 A320 St Peters Way (Chertsey) and J10 A3 (Wisley Interchange)."

By 7.10pm only one lane remained closed but delays continued, with heavy congestion on the motorway.
