Delays on M56 as traffic stopped due to ‘police incident’ – live updates

Motorists are facing delays on the M56 this morning due to a 'police incident'.

Traffic has been stopped on the eastbound carriageway between J12 at Runcorn and J11 at Preston Brook.

Vehicles on both carriageways were initially halted at 10am. The westbound carriageway was then released ten minutes later.

The eastbound lanes remain blocked.

Traffic monitoring system Inrix states: "M56 Eastbound blocked, queueing traffic due to police incident from J12 A557 (Runcorn) to J11 A56 Chester Road (Preston Brook).

"The road was blocked around 10:00. Westbound was released at around 10:10."
