M6 crash near Preston leaves person injured in morning of traffic …
A person was treated by paramedics following a two-vehicle crash on the M6[1] near Preston[2]. Emergency services, including three fire engines from Preston and Fulwood, were called to the northbound carriageway between junction 31 and junction 31a following a collision. The incident was reported at 4.37am today (April 3).
Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service[3] said they worked to make the scene safe and one casualty received treatment from North West Ambulance Service[4] (NWAS) paramedics. Fire crews were in attendance for one hour and ten minutes. It was one of several incidents reports on the stretch of the M6 this morning[5].
National Highways North West said one lane was shut at around 7.30am due to a collision. It led to six miles of congestion and delays of 30 minutes on the M6 back to junction 29. Tailbacks were also reported on the M61[6] to junction 9 for Chorley[7].
A broken down car on the M6 latest caused two lanes to be closed from junction 27 at Standish to junction 28 at Leyland[8]. Travel time in the are was reported to be around 55 minutes and traffic was stopped for around five minutes for recovery work. A fire service spokesperson said: “At 04:37 on 03 April, three fire engines from Preston and Fulwood attended a road traffic collision between J31 and J31a on the M6 Northbound motorway.
The incident involved two vehicles. “Firefighters worked to make the scene safe. One casualty received treatment from North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) paramedics.
Crews were in attendance for one hour and ten minutes.” North West Motorway Police tweeted at 10am: “All lanes are now open on the #M6 northbound between J27 #Chorley and J28 #Leyland following the recovery of a broken down vehicle. There are 7 miles of congestion following this incident causing 50 min residual delays above normal travel time.
Allow time for this to clear.”
