I recently installed this wireless car stereo with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and overall it’s been a really good upgrade for my small car.
I specifically chose the 7-inch version because a previous model I had was too big and felt bulky on the dashboard. This size is much better—it fits nicely, doesn’t block my view, and still gives a clear, responsive display that’s easy to use while driving.
Setup was straightforward, and it connected to my phone quickly via Bluetooth. Apple CarPlay/Android Auto works smoothly, and I mainly use it for navigation and podcasts while driving. It’s really convenient being able to leave my phone charging out of view and control everything through the screen instead.
With CarPlay, I can choose whichever navigation app I prefer—TomTom, Waze, or Google Maps—and they all display nicely on the screen, making directions easy to follow at a glance.
I wasn’t able to get the reversing camera working, so I can’t really comment on that feature. It may just need more time to install properly, but it’s worth noting if that’s something you’re relying on.
Overall, this is a great option if you want modern features in a compact size. The 7-inch screen is perfect for smaller cars, and aside from the camera issue, it does exactly what I need it to do.
I picked this up on behalf of a friend who wanted to modernise their car on a budget, and it’s turned out to be a really solid choice. They were specifically looking for something compact, and the 7-inch screen is a great size — big enough to be useful, but small enough that it doesn’t look out of place or clutter the dashboard. It has a nice, slim design and looks quite sleek once installed.
Setup was very straightforward. The included USB-C power cable is a good length and plugs straight into the 12V socket, turning on and off with the ignition (as long as your socket is wired that way, which most are). Wireless CarPlay pairing was quick and simple — just connect via Bluetooth and you’re good to go. I attached a video showing how easy it is with an iPhone 13.
One thing to note is that a microSD card isn’t included, but that’s not really an issue since they’re inexpensive anyway. On the plus side, it offers multiple audio output options, including a built-in speaker. That’s actually very useful for older cars that don’t have AUX or Bluetooth, or if the car’s speakers aren’t great. The sound quality from the built-in speaker isn’t amazing, but it’s perfectly acceptable for what it is.
It also supports a rear-view camera, which is a nice bonus. That can be especially helpful for parking or for vehicles like vans where rear visibility is limited. Installation of the main unit is easy, though wiring the camera might take a bit more effort depending on how clean you want the setup.
Overall, this is a great value option for adding CarPlay or Android Auto to an older vehicle without spending a lot. It’s compact, convenient, and does exactly what it needs to do. Definitely a worthwhile upgrade.
Excellent upgrade for older cars without Android Auto
I purchased the HOTPEAK 7 inch wireless CarPlay and Android Auto device with a rear camera for my BMW 1 Series (F20). While the car already has an iDrive screen, it does not support Android Auto, which has always been frustrating. The built in sat nav is also quite clunky to use and the screen clarity is not great, especially compared to modern systems. Since I regularly use YouTube Music and Google Maps, this felt like an easy upgrade and it absolutely was.
The device itself is compact, which means it fits nicely alongside the existing iDrive screen without cluttering the dashboard or forcing me to strain my neck. Despite the smaller size, the 7 inch display is bright, sharp and easy to read from the driver’s seat. Maps are clearly visible, and the touchscreen is very responsive with no noticeable lag or glare.
One of the biggest advantages is having all my key apps in one place. I can access Google Maps, YouTube Music and see message notifications at a glance. Voice control is a standout feature. I can simply say “Hey Google” to play music, set navigation routes or reply to messages without taking my eyes off the road. It makes driving much safer and more convenient.
Audio quality is excellent. I mainly use the AUX connection as it is the most reliable, but it is great to have the flexibility of Bluetooth, FM transmission or even the built in speaker. The sound gets impressively loud and blends seamlessly with the car’s audio system. You would not know it is coming from an external device.
Installation was incredibly straightforward. It took me about five minutes using the clear instructions provided. There is no need to dismantle anything, just plug and play via the cigarette lighter. The included mounting options, either on the dashboard or windscreen using the suction mount, are useful and I will continue experimenting to see which works best for me. Wires can also be neatly tucked away so everything looks clean. I’m going to have a play around with this to see what looks best for my car’s set up.
Connection stability has been solid. I have already used it on a long distance drive and did not experience a single dropout.
The rear camera is a fantastic bonus. I did not realise how much I would appreciate it until I started using it. It adds an extra layer of safety and makes parking much easier with a clear, wide view.
Overall, this device delivers everything it promises, including wireless CarPlay and Android Auto, clear real time navigation, voice assistant integration, multiple audio options, screen mirroring and an easy, non invasive installation. For the price, it is an absolute bargain as it also connects with iPhones and brings modern functionality to older cars.
If you commute regularly or do long distance driving like I do, this is a no brainer upgrade. Highly recommended.
Excellent value. Runs carplay very well. Internal speaker sufficient although routing via FM to the radio or via Aux cable is good quality sound. Screen is not too bad – a slight blue cast – but at this price it is fine.
The 12v cigar lighter plug uses up your socket so you can’t charge your phone at same time, so I ditched that cable /plug and replaced with a twin plug that had usb c and usb a sockets with a new usb c to usb c cable to power the screen.
The rear facing baby monitor camera is of no added value. You could possibly mount it as reversing camera but it won’t be as practical to use as a dedicated reversing camera, so I binned it.
Easy to guess how to setup, which is good as the Instruction manual is useless. Online version is likewise rubbish.
Good value for the money. Easy to install, and connect to Android Auto. The screen is clear, touch response is good, and Bluetooth works without any issues. The rear camera is a useful bonus. Sound quality is decent, and overall it does exactly what I expected. I would recommend it if you’re looking for an affordable CarPlay/Android Auto screen.

This is a very useful screen that allows you to use a full android auto instance wirelessly, no cables, no fuss and no lag!!
Even if you have an older car with no clever infotainment system!!
Plugged in, connected and then changed the sound output to Bluetooth (direct from the phone), this is obviously much better than the built-in speaker and makes less clutter than cables as well!!
Simple to setup, same premium user experience and performance as an OEM unit.
