Good idea with some caveats
I was looking for a cable solution to parking issues on my drive. If I park nose in the charger is too far away for my existing cable, I can reverse in but then struggle to open my door easily. Options, a longer charge cable or this, an extender.
Now for my home unit it doesn’t matter as I have the eeasey one charger so I can lock the cable as tethered or untethered but if you have a fixed tethered cable then only an extender is an option.
This one comes in a nice bag with a non slip bottom which is good to stop it slipping around your boot. The cable itself is well made with decent connectors and a lock included, more on that later.
The cable is simple to use, just plug onto the end of your existing charge cable and then into your car. Remember this extender is rated for 7kv charging so will throttle higher voltages and generally not a good idea.
There is a clip that prevents the socket end going into your charger direct, that clip located into your cable end and clicks in place. The supplied padlock then can go through the release button to prevent it being undone. I would say though that the latch is essentially external at this point and a quick lever with something metal could bypass that lock pretty easily but is a deterrent nonetheless.
One more thing is that connection will always be the lowest point and likely to attract water in heavy weather, I know it’s supposed to be watertight but be careful with placement all the same.
Cost wise it’s cheaper than a new box and similarly priced as an equivalent standard charge cable but of course you are adding length. I am not sure how it would work with other commercial chargers but the maximum it would be safe to work with is 7kv anyway so we are not supercharging here.
Decent extender for home use
Good quality and charges fas
This Type 2 EV charging extension cable is a useful solution for anyone who needs a bit more reach when charging their electric vehicle. The 5 metre length provides extra flexibility, making it easier to connect when the charging point is not positioned exactly where you would like it to be.
The cable feels robust and well made, with a sturdy connection that fits securely with compatible Type 2 chargers. The 32A capacity and 7.2KW rating make it suitable for many home charging setups, while the safety lock feature adds extra reassurance during use.
It is easy to store when not needed, and the extra length can make a big difference when dealing with awkward parking positions or inconveniently placed charge points. No more trying to position the car with the precision of a supermarket trolley challenge just to reach the socket.
A practical accessory for EV owners who need more charging flexibility. It does exactly what it promises, providing reliable extra reach without unnecessary fuss.
I bought this 5-metre version to use with my BMW iX, and it has been a really practical addition.
At home, I leave the original charging cable that came with the car permanently connected to my home charger. This spare cable stays in the boot of the car, so when I need to charge at the office or elsewhere, I always have a cable ready to go without having to remember to unplug the one I use at home. So having a spare cable makes daily charging much more convenient.
The cable itself feels extremely well made. It’s thick, flexible enough to coil neatly, and both Type 2 connectors fit securely with no looseness or movement. The locking mechanism gives extra confidence that the connection won’t accidentally come loose during charging or risk of theft.
Charging performance has been exactly as expected, with no interruptions or charging errors on my BMW iX. The weather-resistant construction is another plus, as it feels like a cable that has been designed for regular outdoor use rather than occasional charging.
It also comes with a handy storage case, which keeps everything tidy in the boot and protects the connectors when not in use.
Overall, this is a high-quality charging cable that has made my charging routine much easier. If you regularly charge in more than one location and want to leave your home cable in place while keeping a spare in the car, this is an excellent solution. Highly recommended.
Well Made and Convenient, but Hard to Justify the Price
I got this Type 2 EV charging extension cable to give myself a little more flexibility when charging, particularly in car parks where the charging point isn’t always close enough to the vehicle. The extra length makes a real difference, eliminating the need to reposition the car just to reach the charger. It supports 7.2kW/32A single-phase charging, and I experienced a stable, reliable connection throughout use. The cable feels robust and well constructed, with thick insulation that inspires confidence for regular outdoor use. The safety lock is a welcome feature, helping to keep the connection secure during charging and reducing the risk of accidental disconnection. Despite its heavy-duty build, the cable is still flexible enough to coil up and store in the boot without too much hassle.
My only reservation is the price. While the quality and performance are difficult to fault, it is considerably more expensive than many competing extension cables with similar specifications. If you regularly rely on public chargers or need the additional reach, it is a useful and dependable accessory. However, if you only need an extension occasionally, the premium price may make it difficult to justify despite its excellent build quality.
My new charging assistant!
Despite the growing number of EV charging points, there are still those scenarios where the length of charging cable is too short and can present a problem if you happen to have positioned your car the wrong way, or in extreme situations the obstruction of another car prevents you from reaching the charging port altogether.
Having a charging extension cable has instantly become one of my motoring essentials and this 5m Elevo cable now resides permanently in the boot of the car to combat those awkward situations.
Comes with a convenient zipped storage case, cleaning cloth and a 3-digit combination padlock. The padlock is intended to be inserted into a small hole in the button release of the connector end the cable. This prevents intential or accidental disconnections. The combination number on the padlock is preset to 0-0-0. There is no paperwork included in how to change the combination, but details are available in the product description – screengrab them incase they disappear!
A great cable that does exactly what it says
This comes in decent packaging that protects the contents well.
The main use for this is as a portable product for use when you are charging away from home. Sometimes charging points don’t quite reach or are awkward for other reasons, and this adds another 15ft of reach.
This isn’t how I am using it, however. We have 2 EVs but a single charging point, and the rear car is about a foot too far to do it without pulling the cable dangerously. By adding this extension we have doubled the charging distance. There is now no hassle charging either car.
With this product you get a nice storage case so you can safely stick it in the boot. You also get a padlock which you can use to lock the cable in place, to stop it being stolen. This is a great idea, although I am using a better lock with a key as the one provided could be cut off with small boltcutters.
The cable has a high waterproof rating but I have added some silicone sealant to the connection and then wrapped it in a tight silicone sleeve. Better safe than sorry.
The build quality is very good overall, with nothing that looks like a weak point. It’s not quite as good as the cable you get with a decent EV or charging point, but pretty close. Not bad considering it costs a fraction of the price.
In terms of performance it is exactly as specified. We have been using it for a few weeks and have had no issues, charging time appears to be the same as always.
So for the current price of 109.99 I think it’s pretty good value, although you could upgrade to the 8m version for just 20 more.
High Quality
Brilliant to keep in the boot of the car in case needed. I recently used it at my friends house where they parked their car in their usual spot and I parked in front. Their station woudln’t reach my car without this extension but was easy to connect together and charged my car without any issue. Great quality and good value.
