I’m sure you don’t care about packaging but often it gives an insight into the quality of the product inside. If the packaging has been designed with care, is good quality and the writing makes sense then you can usually be confident that the contents are the same. That is the case here. The unit comes well packaged and on removal from the box you get feeling from the easy-grip rubber overmoulded casing that the product has been well designed and manufactured.
Instructions are limited but the touchscreen interface is easy to use and the graphical interface is pretty simple and easy to get used to.
Diagnostic capabilities are bespoke to manufacturer which is much better than standard obd2 diagnostics. I particularly liked the graphing capability where you can overlay 4 data sensors on 1 graph and see how they perform relative to each other however I found a software bug which meant I couldn’t see the 4 abs wheel speeds on the same graph (See video). I fed this back via the help and remarkably got a response the same day that they will look into this. The software is constantly in development and upgrades are free so hopefully this gets fixed soon.
Diagnostic trouble code lookup is actually just a Google search so you need to be connected to WiFi for this to work.
I felt slightly disappointed in this unit as it doesn’t do any of the basic service resets, battery adaptions, brake services etc but to be fair it doesn’t claim to do this. I just wish I had spent a bit more and got its big brother, the topdon artidiag800bt, as it does all of it, but it is quite a bit more money.
Overall a good unit that is well built, easy to use and benefits from responsive customer suppo
As an auto electrician and working with hundreds of vehicles a week, you often find that some vehicles don’t like certain products you’re installing or coke to you with problems in the first place, so OBD readers are kind of a necessity, when I first received this, straight out of the box you could tell a lot of thought had gone into the design, even with the unboxing of the unit itself. After charging it and setting it up ready to use, I tested it out on my car, The auto vin detection is seem less and makes life so much easier than having to search through lights of brands and models of vehicles, although there is that option I never needed to use it.
I’ve had the unit now for about 2 weeks and have been able to use it on lots of different vehicles, the code clearing process as well as diagnostic information are very easy to use and work out. Being able to email the diagnostic information is a life saver too, you’re instantly presented with a health report of the vehicle as soon as you’ve plugged in, which once that is done you can then go on to clear codes, get more information, check battery health and find out lots of different information about certain aspects of the car.
Overall the Topdon AD500 is a very very good unit, with easy to use functions, a nice design and great price, you get a lot of technology for your money with this unit, there are somethings that this can’t do like reset service lights etc but for me that wasn’t an issue. This covered every base I needed it too and I’m sure it will continue to do so for a long while!
Well first of all delivery was extremely fast. The tool is better than expected works great. Would recommend this to the diy person that has a fair amount of knowledge on car repairs this is for you. Great price too. If they ever want someone to test out any of their products I would be honored.
Car issues! And it gives a warning light up on dash, so you go to the garage and get charged a lot for someone to sit in seat and plug in code reader all of 5 minutes work and here’s your bill Sir. So I bought this item as was having an issue with my Fiat 500 . The unit comes well packed and has a soft storage case for the reader along with its lead and a usb charging cable, quite straight forward to set up and once it had updated its data base I was ready to go. You plug the unit in to the cars data port turn the key to power up vehicle the select make of car. The reader then reads the vin number of vehicle and looks for any fault codes. You can then send a report to your email address for reference or send it to their database which will look up past reports of the issue and inform you of most likely cause. In my case an issue with the coil which was something I could deal with myself. So far I have been very happy with the unit and am sure it will continue to pay for itself over the coming years
I bought this after trying a couple of very cheap readers because the cheap ones didn’t read the codes. This one is great. It reads the codes on my Vauxhall Insignia and my sons Seat Ibiza perfectly. Lets me clear them when issues are fixed so saves cost at the garage and will pay for itself in no time. Seems very sturdy and more like the ones garages use. Not as many features as professional ones but does what I need. Handy feature to be able to email the fault codes as well and updates easily through Wifi. Great buy!
Very impressed so far, bought it to try and diagnose a fault on a Ford fiesta 2010 and it told me straight away, (Low fuel pressure ) and I was able to monitor the fuel pressure in the live data section with the engine running, so it does exactly what I bought it for, I also plugged in to my Ford transit custom and it told me a lot of useful information about expected life cycle on components based on the mileage etc, have only used a few times but has been really good, it’s a good size and connects easily with the auto VIN function so yeah I’d definitely recommend it. I just used it for at home, I’m not a car mechanic but it helped me find out.
It would probably save the diagnosis cost most garages charge now so it’s a win wi
This scanner works exactly as advertised. It reads engine, ABS, SRS and transmission codes quickly and the reset functions save real time and money. The touchscreen is responsive, updates are simple over WiFi and the build quality feels solid. A great tool for anyone who wants reliable diagnostics at home.
Don’t normally write reviews on Amazon however, this device is fantastic. I read the reviews for this and other devices both on Amazon and other retailers. They were overwhelming positive for this compared to others in the same price bracket and higher.
So I took the plunge and I am not disappointed, full deep level diagnosis of thousands of vehicles. Easy to set up, easy to use and identified the issue I had and others I didn’t even know about. Cleared history, helped me fix an issue I assumed related to something else and ive saved a huge amount of money with simple fixes avoiding garage fees.
Can’t recommend this enough amd for the price you cant go wrong. Fantastic would give more the 5 genuinely wouldn’t be with out it.
Great diagnostic tool for DIY purposes. Allows detailed scanning and live data of all sensors on modern cars. Only downside is being and Android based device there are frequent updates to both Android and each brands diagnostic packs. If you don’t regularly use the device these updates may be mandatory and can take a long tim, being inconvenient when you need to diagnose an issue quickly.
Also, ich hatte mir das Topdon bestellt weil mein altes kleines OBD Gert keinen Fehler anzeigte.
Obwohl in meinem Ford Ranger das Musekino nur so von Fehlern bimmelte.
Bergabfahrhilfe, ABS, Spurassistent, alles spinnte.
