Robust, chunky batter teste
This is very much geared for small shop use rather than at-home, although if you do have a bunch of cars or tinker with those of friends and family it’s still moderately useful given the price.
Build quality is solid, as you’d expect, with thick, chunky sides to make it easy to grip when wearing gloves and presumably to offer some degree of protection if it gets knocked around.
You get two sets of leads – one a bigger alligator style clamp like you’d find on jumper cables and some smaller ones that look more like needle nosed pliers. Both are useful, as while the regular clamps work on most batteries with top posts I had to use the smaller ones to sneak in and grab the side of an obnoxious group 75 battery in an old Camaro.
It has three modes (the system test is just all three combined) – general battery test with the vehicle off, a crank test showing the draw on the battery during startup, and then a significantly more involved charge test where you idle, enable high-current devices like heaters and defrosters and rev to 2500rpm…and combinations of those. The latter is the only one that can become a bit awkward as you have to bring the unit around to the drivers seat while still connected. The cables are long enough if you have a front mount battery, at least, but you do need it on hand to hit enter through each of the test steps.
Once done it displays the results on a very bright TN screen with mediocre viewing angles. As far as I can tell the last ten test results are stored for viewing or – amusingly – printing. Out front is a little thermal printer that spits out a few inches of test summary that you can pass along.
The cables all attach via a VGA style port complete with threaded locks. It’s secure but a little awkward when switching the sizes. The case fits everything in separate compartments and even has a little pocket on the top for a few rolls of thermal paper.
Provided you don’t need any sort of app or PC connectivity this is a solid unit that performs battery tests well.
Nice battery teste
This is a full featured battery tester. It gives accurate results and allows testing both in and out of the vehicle. For in vehicle testing it also does charging and cranking tests. The integrated printer is useful for giving a copy to customers. It does multiple battery types and 6-24 volts.
Professional-Grade Battery Tester for Home Use
he TOPDON BT600 Plus is an excellent, full-featured battery tester ideal for car owners and DIY mechanics. It delivers fast, accurate results for 6–24V batteries, with cranking and charging system tests included. The bright 3.5″ screen is easy to read, and the menu is intuitive, even for beginners. Its portable design with a rubberised grip, long cables, and integrated printer makes testing both in and out of the vehicle simple. Supports multiple battery types and retains the last ten results. While slightly pricey, it provides auto-shop-quality diagnostics at home, making it a solid investment for older cars or anyone needing reliable battery monitoring.
Very intuitive to operate, but expensive .
Very intuitive to use even for a non mechanic.
Simple to connect the cables onto the main unit ensuring you tighten the screws into it to keep it secure.
The crocodile clips are well insulated and look good and strong to hold onto the battery terminals.
A second set is included in the set and have a very narrow jaw, I will not probably ever need to use them, but good to have.
It has a `C` cable connector to charge it up and on the display shows the battery state if it needs to be charged up with the cable supplied.
I used it on a friends car battery and once connected and turned on .
It asks you to enter the CCA , which you can find on the cars battery itself, once you have the correct figure just press enter , it takes you through each stage, and press enter each time.
I heard a few clicks from the device and it shows up on the screen very clearly if the battery is ok .
It is quite speedy to give you a reading on a very clear screen
In this case it said it needed to be replaced.
The option to print out the result is great if you want to keep a record to a customer or just for yourself.
It has one roll of paper in the machine already, which can be accessed by opening the small grey flap to replace roll.
A further 4 rolls of paper are in the top of the case lid.
It would have been nice to have had them in a plastic container to keep them from getting damaged or wet .
The unit is easy to hold in your hands.
For the price I would have preferred a hard case and better quality plastic of the main unit.
There are different plug adaptors in the set so the 3 pin for UK is the one I used, just fit them on by twisting it into its final position as you can see in my video.
Proper battery tester that makes car issues easy to diagnose
This battery tester is honestly excellent and feels like a proper professional tool rather than a cheap gadget. Build quality is solid, the screen is clear and the menus are easy to follow, even if you are not a mechanic. It gives you loads of useful info straight away like voltage, battery health, and the actual CCA performance, so you can quickly tell whether a battery is genuinely tired or just needs charging. It works across 6V, 12V and 24V systems which makes it useful for more than just one car, and the clamps feel strong and reliable when connected. The built in battery is a big bonus because you are not relying on the car to power it, and it feels much more convenient when testing multiple vehicles. It also supports a wide CCA range which makes it feel versatile rather than limited.
What makes it stand out is how complete the testing is. Cranking tests and charging tests are really useful because it helps you pinpoint if your issue is battery related or alternator related, instead of guessing and wasting money replacing the wrong part. The built in printer is a brilliant touch too because you can instantly print a report which makes it feel workshop level and it is genuinely handy for keeping records. From what I have seen elsewhere, accuracy and consistency is one of the main reasons people rate these highly, and after using it I can see why, it gives confident results that are easy to understand. Overall this is one of those tools that pays for itself because it helps you avoid bad battery purchases and saves time diagnosing faults.
Very, very good. Ideal for the experienced mechanic as well as the amateur DIY ma
The tester is supplied in a neat zip-up soft walled case which provides good protection for the tester itself, the cables and sundry items like spare paper rolls. With a 3.5 inch colour screen and a built-in thermal printer, this tool offers the ultimate solution for accurate, fast, and convenient home testing
In use it is simplicity itself. You attach the clips to the battery you wish to test, set the operational parameters via the very clear on-screen menu and then follow the on-screen instructions according to the display. The display is very clear and easy to read.
Build quality is excellent. The machine has a top quality look and feel about it.
In terms of functionality there are more applications provided than the average DIY mechanic will ever need. It allows you to easily view the battery’s condition and print test reports in real-time. The BT600 adopts conductivity testing technology and includes reverse polarity protection to prevent improper connections. This multifunctional tool can measure the actual Cold Cranking Ampere capacity of the car’s battery, its state of health, and quickly analyse the starter and charging systems.
The attached pic shows the simple test report for a 2021 diesel Range Rover (original factory battery) after 3-4 cold starts. It tells me that the car needs to go on a decent trip to fully recharge the battery, but that it is not quite time to swap it out for a new one

I like that it doesn’t just test the battery; it also checks cranking performance, charging status, and alternator health, giving a complete picture of the electrical system. The built-in printer is a great bonus — it spits out clear results instantly, which is perfect for keeping records or showing customers exactly what’s going on.
The display is easy to read, and the paired clamps feel sturdy and safe to handle. Overall, this tester is a reliable, professional-grade device that makes diagnosing battery and charging issues straightforward and fast. Highly recommended for both DIYers and mechanics!
Handy diagnostic tool, useful for anyone managing a large number of vehicles
As a person who takes care of our company vehicles, I often deal with various complaints about the difficult starts, dead batteries and electrical issues. Having a tool like the Topdon BT600 is really valuable for me, as it allows me to quickly and thoroughly check the battery and the charging systems. Based on few tests I can determine whether the issues is something simple we can deal in house, or whether we need to book the vehicle into the shop.
The device has a rugged build and I’m sure it would have no problems being used in a full time shop or by a mobile mechanic. The tester can check the battery health and diagnose charging and cranking issues. The all in one tester has a built in clear screen and a mini thermal printer, which is perfect for keeping track of the diagnostics.
Topdon made the tester’s interface very clear and easy to use. The tool can be used practically without any training, although a quick look through the manual is useful. Very good functionality, quick diagnostic procedures and very good quality of the kit earn high marks. Easy 5 stars!
Thorough, and easy to use.
Might be a bit much for your average homeowner, but if you fancy yourself a home/back yard mechanic, this tester will be handy to have around.
I used to work with the caa battery assist program and I used a unit like this one. Not in looks, but in function. This unit covers everything that the handhelds I used did except I found this unit to be a bit bulkier. Oddly enough though, it also feel good in my hand. The materials however (for the price), feel sort of underwhelming and light weight and I wouldn’t want to drop it too much, if at all.
Ease of operation, just follow along the prompts, enter the information it asks and it pretty much does the rest.
It came with a soft case that holds everything safe and sound, extra rolls of print out paper as well. All in all, it will take a lot of the guess work out of battery and or charging issues on your vehicles, farm equipment etc.
About my only complaint would be that I wish the cables were a bit longer for easier on person operation. Depending where the battery is, you may need a friend.
I’d give it a five star but I find the pricepoint to be a bit on the high side.
