After doing a silly thing and using my automatic tyre inflator on car accessories rather than turning on the engine the inflator soon gave up the ghost and I realised what I had done… the battery on my Toyota Yaris Hybrid was now flat. Because my AA cover had run out calling them out would have been expensive so after doing a little bit of research the solution to my problem was this Ring Automotive ULTRABOOST 500A 12V Car Battery Jump Starter 6000mAh. This is the cheapest in the range but it came highly recommended.
It came partly charged so it only took around half an hour to achieve a full charge using the supplied USB-A/USB-C cable plugged into a USB-A mains plug. The two part construction – the main battery and the separate section with the positive and negative leads push together and then you are ready to go.
In my specific case the access to the positive battery terminal is underneath the fuse cover. After connecting the red lead to the relevant area (beneath a red safety cover) and then the black lead to a nearby bolt head the unit indicated green meaning it was safe to continue with the jump start routine.
It immediately started to provide the necessary power and a distinct click is heard but I did not choose to use the ‘boost’ function. After 30 seconds I entered the car and pressed the push button ignition start and it fired up… marvellous! The unit can even provide your tablet or phone with instant power.
This is a valuable unit and as hybrid vehicles tend to use smaller batteries their onboard electronics can use quite a bit of juice which can be an issue if you are not doing many miles to keep the battery fully recharged. Suffice it to say this gets a full five stars from me… it’s well made and certainly a worthwhile investment. Full recommendation.
My cad sits unused for long periods, so the battery inevitably goes flat.
Most times, the booster starts at the first attempt, but when really cold it might take a few tries – and here, the booster can get a bit upset, and refusedls tobboost again for a while. That’s probably not unique to this, though, and I’m sure there are good reasons for that.
Decent value during Prime sales too.
A brilliant piece of kit with an outstanding battery which hardly ever needs charging. Had a lot of trouble with my 12v battery on my toyota auris and this kit never failed to get me going. Highly recommend.

Since buying this a little over a week ago as my car is being a bit temperamental at the moment I’ve used it twice. Once on my Suzuki Hayabusa 1300 motorbike and once on my 1.6Turbo Ecoboost Focus.
It started both vehicles with ease. After making sure it was fully charged on day of delivery, as I said, used it twice and it showed fully charged after use. Didn’t have to use boost.
So all in all, a VERY GOOD purchase. Highly recommend this BRITISH jump pack.

Pretty impressed with the 500A model. It it is compact and looks well built and does what it is designed to do. Jump started a car with flat battery twice, an old petrol Peuguot.
Saves calling breakdown services out
I actually purchased to carry in my car, a hybrid, where the battery is flattened by the electronics as it isnt used enough.

What an item. No more messing about with jump leads. Was in hospital and my “always on”dashcam ran down the battery on my Peugeot. Connected booster to battery, started immediately.
