I am comfortable doing basic jobs like oil changes and brakes, but diagnostics are the bit where I would rather have proper information before deciding what to do next. The MUCAR 632 has been useful for that because it gives me the scan results, live readings and service options on the unit itself, without needing a Bluetooth dongle and a separate phone app.
My usual process is to plug it in, run a scan, then check stored codes, pending codes and readiness status before digging any deeper. The screen is clear and the layout is easy enough to follow without feeling like you need to be a mechanic. The AI explanation is one of the better features because it puts fault codes into plain English and gives a sensible idea of what areas might be worth checking. I would still treat it as guidance, but it saves a lot of time searching around.
The cable feels secure in the OBD port and the unit stayed connected during my checks. Live data updated smoothly enough for normal driveway diagnosis, and it is useful being able to see sensor readings on a proper screen rather than trying to make sense of everything through a small phone display.
It is also more capable than a basic engine reader. It can access systems such as engine, gearbox, ABS and airbags, and it includes service reset options like oil, brake, battery, steering angle and throttle functions where the vehicle supports them. Bear in mind not every feature will be available on every car.
It is not the scanner I would buy just to erase an occasional code, as there is a lot more here than that. Where it really shines is for someone who does their own maintenance, looks after more than one car, or wants proper information before handing a problem over to a garage. It gives you enough detail to make better decisions without feeling like a full professional setup.

I quite like this OBD2 scan tool for several reasons and one caveat. Firstly, it’s got large, easily read screen and comes with a longish cable to connect to the OBD port on your car, which was good. The OBD2 end of the cable has a removable cover which I thought was a good idea. I really like the fact that this unit is a Bidirectional scanner which means you can do basic reset of parts of your car like reset the brake and, oil sensors; 15 in total.
In use the menus are logically laid out and you can perform a quick test or a more detailed one. If you see any fault codes you can interrogate them and see what’s wrong and clear them if you need to.
I felt this is where the unit falls down a little bit. You have to connect the unit to a wireless network for updates, fair enough, but you can also find out what the codes mean by using the built in google chrome browser. The trouble is you have to memorise the code then type it into google, which seemed a bit counter intuitive. Maybe it was me not understanding the instructions fully but it seems an easy thing for the software to implement, hopefully via an update. Its possible my car, a 2004 Porsche was a bit too old for some of this although it did pick up a couple of codes due to a flat battery in the past which I could clear easily.
The other thing that was also not 100% was the Mucar AI doctor, I found it just did not always offer any hope, tending to be a bit generic. Having said that neither are huge deals really and for the price you pay for a BI directional scanner, I think the unit is good value. It is easy to use, and does most things quite well.
PS I must apologise that some of the the pictures are blurry, the reflection on the screen was bad but I did no notice it at the time as the sun was out. Hopefully you can make out the details though.

The unit feels solid and properly built rather than toy like, and the large screen makes a massive difference compared with tiny handheld readers or trying to use a phone app balanced on your lap. Menus are laid out clearly enough that you can get around without needing to be a full time mechanic.
I’ve used it on a couple of cars already and it picked up stored codes, live sensor data and readiness checks quickly. Connection has been reliable so far and updates over WiFi are straightforward enough. It’s also handy having multiple reset and service functions built in rather than needing separate tools or subscriptions for every little thing.
The only reason it loses a star is that some features feel a little more involved than expected, especially around manufacturer-specific functions and updates. You do occasionally end up digging through menus or checking compatibility online before knowing exactly what will work on your vehicle.
Overall though, this is a genuinely useful bit of kit if you like understanding what’s going on with your car before handing it over to a garage. Powerful enough for deeper diagnostics while still approachable for normal driveway tinkering.
