Massive lorry fire closes M8 motorway section near Glasgow

The blaze was captured by passing motorists, and there is no indication of what caused it or whether anyone was injured.

Lorry bursts into flames on M8 (2)

A section of the M8 motorway near Glasgow was closed off for almost nine hours after a lorry erupted into flames.[1]

The vehicle fire is understood to have started around midnight on Friday, at Junction 13 at Provan Road.

It is understood emergency services attended the scene but whether anyone was injured has not yet been confirmed, the Daily Record reports.[2]

The cause of the fire also remains unknown.

The articulated trailer went up in flames on the eastbound carriageway, and thick black smoke was blowing out onto the motorway.

Traffic Scotland advised motorists to find alternate routes, and provided updates on the fire throughout the night.

The final update at 5:45am confirmed the road had reopened.

Police Scotland, Scottish Ambulance Service, and Scottish Fire and Rescue Service have been contacted for comment.
