This is a great portable CarPlay and Android Auto unit that is very easy to set up. I plugged it in, paired it via Bluetooth, and was connected and ready to go within minutes.
The 7-inch touchscreen is clear and generally responsive, and all of my CarPlay apps appeared straight away from my iPhone. It works well for navigation, calls, messages and other CarPlay-supported apps, and the display is far better than relying on a phone in a holder.
Sound quality from the built-in speaker is fine for voice announcements and phone calls, but it is quite tinny for music. Thankfully, there are several audio output options. It includes a 3.5mm audio cable, which is useful if your car stereo has an AUX input, although it does mean having another cable trailing in the car. You can also connect through FM or Bluetooth, depending on what your car stereo supports.
The touchscreen works well most of the time, although I did notice the odd bit of judder or lag. I also could not easily work out how to adjust the volume when connected via Bluetooth directly to my iPhone. When routed through the car stereo, though, it is easy enough to control the volume using the car’s own dial.
One important point is that this does need a connected mobile device to function properly. It is not a standalone sat nav, so if you forget your phone or your phone battery is flat, it will not work as a backup GPS.
It comes with a good range of mounting options for either temporary or more permanent fitting, and the unit can be removed from the mount easily if you want to use it between two vehicles.
Overall, this is a very useful bit of kit with a clear display, auto brightness adjustment with manual override, simple setup and all the accessories needed for a basic installation.
Great Way to Add CarPlay to an Older Car Without Replacing the Stereo
I ordered this portable car stereo for my teenage son as his car still has an older stereo system and he wanted Apple CarPlay without changing the whole head unit and it’s worked much better than we expected.
It was fairly easy to set up and connected to his iPhone quickly through Bluetooth. Once connected CarPlay came up automatically.
My son mainly uses it for Google Maps and Spotify. The screen is a good size and clear enough to see properly whilst driving.
We used the CD slot mount which feels much sturdier than the vent phone holders he had before and it doesn’t seem to move around whilst driving. The touchscreen is responsive and Siri voice control is useful for changing music or directions hands free.
The sound quality is good and better than i thought it would be especially when connected through the car speakers rather than using the built in speaker. Overall it’s been a good way of updating an older car without having to spend a fortune replacing the stereo system.
Really Good & Stable Connectio
I have tried a few of these, and I really like this brand, as their technology is always excellent and up to date.
Set up is easy, as usual with this brand, and it really is plug and play straight from the box. I connected easily, and it’s a stable connection with no drop outs at all. The screen is crystal clear, and it’s very reactive and user friendly, you honestly cant go wrong with this. The sound quality is fine, but I do feel that it doesn’t do music enough justice. I like a really bassy sound with music, and this doesn’t quite give that punch I like. That aside, it’s solidly made, premium quality, and worth every penny. Happy to recommend this product, and this brand overall.
Mostly smooth screen upgrade for my commute
Needed something smarter than my cracked phone holder, so the Carpuride W701 Pro has been living on the dash for a fortnight now, happily putting my maps and playlists on a bright 7 inch screen that’s bigger than my first telly. Setup was literally plug in, pair, done — even I managed it after a long shift with brain fog.
At six in the morning driving home from the ward, Siri chirping through the built in 45W speaker kept me awake and on the right junction, though the bass made my labrador in the back seat look confused. And once I flicked the audio to the car speakers over Bluetooth the sound filled the cabin nicely, no extra cables flapping about.
Touch response is mostly smooth, but now and then it hesitates like my 6 year old deciding on cereal. So I docked a star. Still, being able to yank it off the CD slot mount and swap it into my husband’s ageing Fiesta is proper handy.
Fresh lease of life for old dash
I stuck the CARPURIDE W701 Pro into the ancient CD slot of my Mondeo last month and suddenly the dashboard felt ten years younger. The seven inch IPS screen looks sharp, colours stay clear even when the sun tries its best to bleach them out.
First proper test was last Monday, racing the kids to swimming lessons while juggling Spotify requests and a sat nav detour round a closed bridge. Wired cables would have ended in a knot, so the wireless CarPlay spared my sanity, Siri reading texts while I kept both hands on the wheel.
And the dual Bluetooth option let our dog’s favourite lullaby play through the car speakers while calls came through the built in driver side unit, odd but it works. I skipped the FM transmitter, one radio hiss too many in my area.
So almost perfect, a firmware tweak for louder call volume would seal the deal.

I’ve been using Carpuride units for a while now and already have two of their CarPlay systems installed in my own cars, so I had high expectations for this W701 Pro. I actually ordered this one for my granddaughter after she recently passed her driving test, and she is absolutely over the moon with it. Setup was very straightforward. Within a few minutes it was powered up, paired to her phone and ready to use. The wireless CarPlay connection works well and automatically reconnects when she gets in the car, making it feel like a factory-fitted system rather than an aftermarket add-on. The 7-inch touchscreen is bright, clear and responsive, with plenty of screen space for navigation, music and calls. Maps are much easier to follow compared to using a phone mounted on the dashboard, and voice control through Siri works exactly as expected for making calls, sending messages and setting destinations without taking your hands off the wheel. One feature I particularly like is the flexibility of the audio connections. Whether your car has Bluetooth, AUX or you need to use the FM transmitter option, there are plenty of ways to get it connected to your vehicle’s speakers. The included mounting options are also useful and make it easy to find a position that suits your dashboard.
The screen quality is excellent, especially for the price, and the automatic brightness adjustment helps keep it easy to see both during the day and at night. The unit feels well made and comes with everything needed for installation. Overall, this is another impressive product from Carpuride. Based on my experience with the two units I already own, reliability has been excellent, and this W701 Pro continues that trend. My granddaughter loves it and says it has completely transformed her driving experience.
