Compatible ink cartridges for my HP Envy 7934 are hard to come by and I think that’s primarily down to the fact that their continued use isn’t guaranteed in HP printers, where the manufacturer has ‘tied down’ the use of genuine HP cartridges by forcing through software updates that will essentially ‘kill’ non-OEM ones. The way round this of course is to disable printer updates in the HP companion app. The other alternative is to use genuine cartridges purchased either individually or through their ink delivery programme.

So, after faffing about with the app, my printer recognised these cartridges and I was able to use them straight away. I printed off a few short documents with a mixture of text and photos and to be honest, didn’t notice any difference in quality compared to the OEM ones I had previously installed. The black is deep and the colours vibrant where they need to be. There was no leakage from them during either installation or use.

These cartridges are very good value compared to OEM ones and at the time of writing are about half the price of their HP equivalent. The only conundrum is how long they will last and whether the printer will find a way of ‘bricking’ them. Obviously, by turning off printer updates you’re slightly compromising the security and compatibility of your printer but, ‘you pay your money and take your choice.’

However, in terms of quality and usability for the purposes of this review, I’d recommend them.
