    Effective 2.5Gb NIC with better than average cooling
    There are a quite a few Realtek RTL8125B based network cards about, and I’ve used several based on that chip as well as Intel based 2.5GbE ones as well.

    This one arrives in a cardboard box, inside of which is a plastic preformed two part shell to protect the card. While this does a good job of protecting the card, it’s a shame the inside part is not a firm card to reduce plastic use and make disposal easier.

    The card looks well made, and I like that this one has a larger heatsink on that some cards as the Realtek chips seems to run a little hotter than Intel. This size of heatsink should be good for running the card at maximum speed for prolonged periods such as full disk image backups, something I have found can overheat and damage cards with inadequate cooling.

    I used it in my test PC and connected it to two different 2.5GbE switches in turn to check compatibility. Both sides auto configured for the 2.5GbE speed without issue. I tested some large backup files transfers totalling nearly 0.5 TB and speeds were as expected and it didn’t get worryingly hot.

    As a simple 2.5G NIC it works well and at 18.99 it’s in the normal range for such cards so fairly priced.

    Good 2.5Gb ethernet adapte
    This network card comes with both a high and low profile bracket, with the high profile bracket already installed.

    The card also includes a heatsink, which is a nice touch and should keep the chipset at a reasonable temperature in use.

    There’s one LED indicator which blinks to indicate network activity and changes colour based on active link speed.

    While there is a note in the instructions with a link to download drivers, it’s based on the Realtek RTL8125B chipset, which is very common and thus Windows 10 and 11 have drivers built in, so the card is quickly configured and ready to use without needing to download any drivers manually.

    In use, it works very well. I’ve tested it at various speeds and it connects fine at 100/1000/2500 Mbps as advertised.

    At the time of review, the card costs around 19, so about average for a third party network card of this speed, so definitely worth considering if you’re looking for something like this.

    Si tienes un ordenador de sobremesa y has adquirido o montado recientemente un servidor NAS, o si tienes contratada una conexin a internet superior al Gigabit y quieres exprimirla al mximo, esta tarjeta de red es una actualizacin tremendamente interesante. Nos va a permitir dotar a nuestro equipo de una conexin 2,5 veces ms potente de la que tena (las placas base solan venir limitadas a 1 Gigabit por defecto), sin tener que cambiar de placa ni gastarnos un dineral.

    En cuanto a la calidad del producto, estamos ante una tarjeta bien construida. No tiene detalles ultra premium, pero son desde luego suficientes para un componente interno. Atrs quedaron las tpicas y feas placas verdes; este modelo tiene el PCB en color negro, por lo que pasar completamente desapercibida si tenemos una caja de PC con ventana de cristal. Adems, cuenta con un disipador metlico que hace su trabajo de forma totalmente pasiva, disipando el calor sin generar ningn tipo de ruido.

    A nivel de montaje y espacio, hay que destacar que el disipador tiene un perfil bastante bajo, por lo que la tarjeta ocupa estrictamente un solo slot (ranura). No invadir el espacio adyacente, lo que significa que si pretendes instalar otra tarjeta de expansin justo debajo, no habr ningn problema. Ahora bien, quiero dar un consejo trmico crucial: si tu placa base tiene un puerto PCIe pequeo (x1) situado justo encima de la tarjeta grfica principal, recomiendo encarecidamente no conectar esta tarjeta ah. Al estar tan pegada, se tragar todo el calor residual de la GPU, lo que har que el rendimiento de la red caiga en picado o incluso llegue a quemarse a la larga. Lo ideal es buscarle siempre un puerto que quede por debajo de la grfica para que respire bien. Por ltimo sobre su formato fsico, en la caja se incluye un bracket (chapa de sujecin) de perfil bajo, vital para instalarla en gabinetes pequeos o equipos SFF (Small Form Factor).

    El cerebro de esta tarjeta es el chip Realtek RTL8125B. Que lleve la revisin “B” es una excelente noticia, ya que el fabricante ha mejorado varias cosas respecto a la primera versin en cuanto a estabilidad y eficiencia. A nivel de compatibilidad es una maravilla: funciona perfectamente desde Windows 7 hasta Windows 11. Adems, al ser un chip tan estandarizado, es 100% compatible con Linux. Si tu sistema est mnimamente actualizado, ya sea en Windows 11 o si te ests montando un NAS casero con distribuciones como OpenMediaVault, el sistema la reconocer al instante. Pero aqu viene un detalle brillante que se agradece muchsimo: en el propio bracket de la tarjeta viene impreso un cdigo QR para descargar los drivers. Lo normal con estos componentes es sacarlos de la caja y tirarla a la basura; para los que no sepan qu chip lleva la tarjeta o usen un sistema operativo ms antiguo, no tienen ms que mirar la parte trasera del PC, hacerle una foto al QR con el mvil y acceder directamente a los controladores.

    A nivel de rendimiento, nos ofrece unas velocidades de transmisin de datos reales de ms de 250 MB/s (aunque eso s, para llegar a dichas tasas hace falta tener un servidor al que acceder, ya sea en nuestra red o a travs de internet). Cuando tienes un NAS, este salto se nota muchsimo; los discos mecnicos actuales son bastante rpidos, y si ya tienes almacenamiento SSD en tu servidor, tener una red de 2.5G es una actualizacin prcticamente obligada para no hacer cuello de botella. Podra plantearse la opcin de invertir ms en una tarjeta de 5G, pero hoy por hoy es una velocidad que est en “tierra de nadie”; la gente suele saltar al 2.5G por su precio rompedor, o irse directamente a redes de 10G si contratan fibras pticas extremas.

    En definitiva, es un componente con las tres “B” (bueno, bonito y barato). Puede que YuanLey no sea un ensamblador tan conocido como Asus o TP-Link, pero aqu lo verdaderamente importante es el cerebro del aparato. El chip es de Realtek, una marca veterana y ms que contrastada en este sector que sabemos que no da problemas a largo plazo. Por su rendimiento, estabilidad, versatilidad para cajas y por el brillante aviso de los controladores, la recomiendo plenamente. Se lleva mis 5 estrellas.

    Easy upgrade for faster wired networking
    I fitted this to a desktop that only had standard Gigabit Ethernet, mainly for NAS transfers and general wired networking. Installation was straightforward, and the included low-profile bracket is useful if you are putting it into a smaller case.

    Windows picked it up without much fuss. The Realtek RTL8125B chipset is a common choice for 2.5Gb cards, so it is a sensible option for a basic home or small office upgrade.

    Performance depends on the rest of your network. You will need a 2.5Gb switch, router port, and suitable cabling to see the full benefit. On a normal Gigabit network, it will still work, but you will not get the headline speed.

    The card itself feels basic but practical. The heatsink is a nice touch, and it sits neatly in a PCIe slot without taking up much room. Features like Wake on LAN, VLAN support, and PXE boot are useful if you are using it in a server or more advanced setup.

    My only real caveat is that this is still a budget-style Realtek card, so I would not treat it like enterprise hardware. For a desktop, media PC, or home server upgrade, though, it is a good, low-cost way to move beyond Gigabit Ethernet.

    A nice, simple upgrade that has made a big difference
    My sons motherboard has a 1Gb Ethernet port but we have faster internet available so this YuanLey 2.5Gb Ethernet Adapter was ideal to get him faster connection.

    It comes with the full size PCI bracket attached and the small half height in the box if you need it.

    It was easy to install and was surprisingly plug and play although there is links to software if needed.

    A nice, simple upgrade that has made a big difference.

    Works exactly as you need.
    I ordered this as my Gigabyte Z490 based motherboard came with an Intel I225-V 2.5 GbE network interface controller which due to the hardware and firmware bugs often causing dropped connection. At the time I had to fall back to using one of my trusty Intel 1GB PCIe NIC’s. However I’m a speed freak and always want a little more oomph.

    This 2.5GB Realtek RTL8125B based card is a great upgrade. It works great and after installing the latest Windows 11 NetAdapterCx drivers from Realtek to get full access to all the chip tweaks in the driver panel (especially so that the transmit and receive buffers can be maxed out) it’s happily cruising along at full speed.

    The card itself is a tidy little thing with a nice chunky heatsink and both full height and half height brackets supplied in the box. The price is good and compatibility wise it will run on practically everything making it ideal for Windows and Linux users.

    Ideal for home serve
    This network interface card provided a seamless upgrade from 1Gbps to 2.5Gbps speeds, working flawlessly inside my Proxmox server environment. Physical installation was straightforward, and the inclusion of a low-profile backplate was a welcome addition to match my compact chassis setup.

    My card required no driver installation, being recognised automatically by the system. While a brief consultation with AI was necessary to configure the network settings within Linux and Proxmox, the setup process was short and entirely painless.     Primera impresin:

    La tarjeta de red llega en una buena caja donde se muestran claramente el fabricante y las principales especificaciones del producto.

    Al abrirla encontramos una bandeja plstica preformada con tapa que protege perfectamente la tarjeta durante el transporte. Adems, se incluye un manual en varios idiomas y un bracket de perfil bajo.

    Despus de una inspeccin inicial, transmite una buena sensacin de calidad.

    La primera impresin es muy buena.

    Construccin y diseo:

    Es una tarjeta de red PCIe con una velocidad mxima de 2,5 Gbps basada en chip RTL8127 de la conocida Realtek.

    La tarjeta puede sincronizar a 100 Mbps, 1 Gbps y 2,5 Gbps, algo positivo desde el punto de vista de la compatibilidad con distintos equipos e infraestructuras de red.

    Examinando detenidamente la placa de circuito impreso no observ soldaduras defectuosas, restos de fabricacin ni otros detalles que llamaran negativamente la atencin. El acabado general es bueno.

    Lo nico que me llam la atencin fue que la placa resulta relativamente delgada, por lo que conviene manipularla con cierto cuidado durante la instalacin.

    La mscara de soldadura de color negro combinada con el disipador rojo le da una apariencia muy atractiva, especialmente en equipos con ventana lateral, donde los componentes permanecen visibles.

    El manual incluye un cdigo QR para la descarga de controladores. Tras seleccionar el modelo correspondiente en la pgina del fabricante, la descarga se realiza directamente desde Realtek. Creo que es una buena decisin por parte del fabricante, ya que permite obtener los controladores desde la fuente original con total confianza sobre su procedencia.

    Pruebas:

    Para las pruebas utilic los PC de referencia que tenemos en mi lugar de trabajo.

    Disponemos de dos ordenadores dedicados a pruebas de red mediante iPerf. Uno de ellos permanece siempre configurado como servidor para disponer de una referencia estable, mientras que el segundo acta como cliente.

    Instal esta tarjeta en el equipo cliente y la conect directamente a una tarjeta de red de gama alta de 2,5 Gbps presente en el servidor mediante un cable crossover.

    La primera prueba consisti en ejecutar iPerf durante treinta minutos de forma continua.

    El resultado obtenido fue una velocidad media efectiva de aproximadamente 1,98 Gbps. Aunque la cifra es buena, tambin es inferior a lo que esperaba para una conexin de 2,5 Gbps.

    Durante las comprobaciones observ que el disipador de la tarjeta alcanzaba una temperatura bastante elevada al tacto. Esto me llev a sospechar que el chip podra estar reduciendo su rendimiento (thermal throttling) debido a la temperatura de funcionamiento.

    Para comprobar esto, repet exactamente la misma prueba colocando un ventilador orientado directamente hacia el disipador.

    En esta ocasin la velocidad media aument hasta aproximadamente 2,42 Gbps, una cifra mucho ms cercana al mximo esperado para este tipo de interfaz.

    Por curiosidad tambin repet las pruebas conectando est tarjeta a la de 1 Gbps del servidor iPerf, obteniendo una velocidad promedio de 998 Mbps, un resultado bueno y totalmente razonable.

    Pros:

    Buena presentacin y embalaje.

    Incluye bracket de perfil bajo.

    Buena calidad de fabricacin.

    Compatible con 100 Mbps, 1 Gbps y 2,5 Gbps.

    Muy buen rendimiento en redes de 2,5 Gbps.

    Resultados muy cercanos al mximo terico cuando dispone de ventilacin adecuada.

    Diseo atractivo.

    Chip ampliamente conocido y compatible.

    Contras:

    El disipador alcanza temperaturas elevadas durante cargas sostenidas.

    En cajas con poca ventilacin podra ser recomendable disponer de algo de flujo de aire adicional cerca de la tarjeta.

    Resumen:

    La tarjeta est bien construida, viene con una presentacin muy buena y el rendimiento cumple perfectamente con lo esperado para esta categora.

    Las pruebas muestran que es capaz de ofrecer velocidades muy prximas al lmite prctico de una conexin de 2,5 Gbps, aunque tambin sugieren que una ventilacin adecuada ayuda a obtener el mximo rendimiento.

    Por lo dems, ofrece una instalacin sencilla, buena compatibilidad y un aspecto visual muy atractivo.

    En definitiva, una opcin muy recomendable para quienes quieran dar el salto a los 2,5 Gbps sin complicaciones.

    Excellent Realtek RTL8125B-based 2.5G card, good Linux suppo
    This Yuanley 2.5G PCIe adapter is a PCIe adapter supporting the increasingly common 2.5G Ethernet standard, in addition to 10/100/1000Mbps. It’s supplied with both standard and low profile brackets, which is helpful. The card itself is electrically and physically x1 so can be used in pretty much any PCIe slot. The card itself is compact, with a large red heatsink the top of the Ethernet chip – I have other similar heatsink-less 2.5G network adapters, so this is a nice touch. It uses the common Realtek RTL8125B chipset, which has wide support so you very possibly don’t need to install any additional drives.

    In use, installation was straightforward. I’m using it with the standard height bracket so didn’t even need to swap them. Once installed, my Gigabyte motherboard SFF Linux system had no issues identifying the new adapter and using it at full speed via my budget Horaco 2.5G managed switch. I’m using the in-kernel r8125 driver. Transfers were at pretty much close to wire speed and I experience no dropouts or issues.

    It’s hard to fault this adapter. The current price is just under 20, which is fair for a 2.5G adapter, although not the cheapest I’ve seen, and it works very well. If you need a single port 2.5G adapter, this one is recommended. But don’t neglect other options – second hand 10G adapters can often be found for similar prices.

    Excellent and affordable upgrade to 2.5Gb networking
    I recently upgraded my home network to 2.5Gb Ethernet and quickly discovered that one of my older PCs was still limited to a standard 1Gb network connection. Rather than replacing the entire motherboard, I started looking for a simple PCIe network card that would let me take advantage of the faster speeds available on my network.

    This is when I found this YuanLey 2.5Gb PCIe Ethernet adapter. The specifications looked good, it uses the well-known Realtek RTL8125B chipset, and the price was much lower than replacing other hardware, so I decided to give it a try.

    Installation was extremely straightforward. I simply installed the card into an available PCIe slot, powered on the computer, and it was immediately detected by the operating system. The package also includes both full-height and low-profile brackets, which is a nice touch if you have a compact PC or home server.

    Performance has been excellent so far. Once connected to my 2.5Gb network, file transfers to my NAS were noticeably faster than before, and network performance has been completely stable.     Wer zu Hause einen eigenen Home-Server — zum Beispiel auf Basis von TrueNAS — betreibt, stt mit der klassischen, auf den meisten Mainboards fest verbauten Gigabit-Schnittstelle (1 GBit/s) schnell an seine Grenzen. Sobald schnelle NVMe-Pools oder SSDs im Server vorhanden sind, wird die Hardware unterfordert, whrend die Netzwerkleitung bei groen Dateibertragungen, Backups oder dem Verschieben von Medienarchiven komplett berlastet ist. Abhilfe schafft hier die YuanLey 2.5G PCIe-Netzwerkkarte: Sie ist eine extrem gnstige und unkomplizierte Mglichkeit, den Netzwerkspeicher auf zeitgeme 2,5 GBit/s aufzursten, ohne direkt dreistellige Betrge fr 10G-Komponenten in die Hand nehmen zu mssen.

    Bei Netzwerkkomponenten fr Server-Betriebssysteme (unabhngig davon, ob es sich um TrueNAS CORE auf FreeBSD-Basis oder TrueNAS SCALE auf Linux-Basis handelt) ist allein der verbaute Controller-Chip entscheidend fr Erfolg oder Frustration. YuanLey setzt hier auf den weit verbreiteten Realtek RTL8125B.

    In der Vergangenheit gab es in der Open-Source-Community immer mal wieder Diskussionen ber Realtek-Treiber im Serverumfeld, doch diese Zeiten sind weitgehend vorbei. In den aktuellen TrueNAS-Versionen (insbesondere bei SCALE) bringt das System die passenden Treiber direkt nativ mit. Die Karte wird beim Booten sofort fehlerfrei erkannt und steht im Web-Interface direkt als schnelles Interface zur Verfgung. Wichtige Netzwerkfunktionen wie das VLAN-Tagging zur logischen Trennung von Heimnetz und Laborumgebungen laufen mit den aktuellen Treibern bei mir absolut fehlerfrei und stabil. Das war bei Realtek-Chipstzen nicht immer der Fall.

    Die Karte selbst ist extrem kompakt gebaut und belegt durch das mechanische PCIe-x1-Design kaum Platz auf dem Mainboard. Sie lsst sich universell in jeden freien x1-, x4-, x8- oder x16-Steckplatz betreiben.

    Ein wichtiges Detail fr den 24/7-Dauerbetrieb in einem geschlossenen Servergehuse ist der Aluminium-Khlkrper, der direkt auf dem Realtek-Chip sitzt. Unter voller Last, also beim sequenziellen Schreiben von riesigen Datenmengen auf die ZFS-Pools, zieht der Chip ordentlich Leistung. Der Khler fhrt die Abwrme verlsslich ab, sodass es selbst nach stundenlangen Kopiervorgngen nicht zu thermisch bedingten Leistungseinbuen (Thermal Throttling) oder gar Verbindungsabbrchen kommt.

    Fr den Einbau in oft recht spezielle Home-Server- oder NAS-Gehuse liefert der Hersteller das passende Zubehr direkt mit. Neben der standardmig vormontierten Full-Height-Blende liegt dem Paket eine Low-Profile-Halterung bei. Wer seinen Server in einem schlanken 2HE-Rack-Gehuse, einem Mini-PC oder einem Small-Form-Factor-System verbaut hat, kann die Blende innerhalb einer Minute wechseln und die Karte problemlos verschrauben.

    Mein persnliches Fazit: Die YuanLey 2.5G PCIe-Netzwerkkarte ist ein unkompliziertes und uerst wirtschaftliches Upgrade fr jeden TrueNAS-Home-Server. Sie beseitigt den lstigen Gigabit-Flaschenhals im Handumdrehen und liefert im Zusammenspiel mit dem integrierten Khlkrper eine absolut stabile und performante Datenbertragung.
