Slip road on busy section of M8 motorway to close for entire weekend

The GBP10m programme is focused on upgrading and refurbishing four bridges which were built in 1968 and carry the M8 over both local roads and a railway.

Wear and tear on the surfaces had led to problems with potholes.

As well as the surfaces, the existing edge parapets and central reservation barriers are being strengthened or replaced entirely.

Traffic intending to use the M8 Junction 26 westbound off-slip road this weekend will be diverted to exit via the M8 J25A westbound off-slip road to Braehead.

From here, traffic will turn left onto Old Govan Road and will take a further left onto Kings Inch Road, following towards Hillington Interchange where the diversion will end.

A contraflow on the M8 at this location and a 40mph speed limit remains in effect throughout the project's duration.

Average speed cameras will remain on to ensure the safety of the workforce.

Partners Transport Scotland, Traffic Scotland, Renfrewshire Council, Glasgow City Council, West Dunbartonshire Council, and Braehead Shopping Centre thanked road users in advance for their patience.

Meanwhile, in the east of the central belt, long delays are expected as major refurbishment work is carried out on a motorway bridge over the River Almond near Whitburn.

Bear Scotland is encouraging drivers to take alternative routes while work continues on the bridge between Junctions 3A and 4A of the M8.

A contraflow will be in place with traffic restricted to a single lane in each direction from 20:30 on Friday until 06:00 on Monday.

A 40mph speed limit will be in force.
