Police issue statement after ‘incident’ on M5 in Somerset
Drivers passing through the motorway in Somerset faced significant delays in both directions. Police were spotted on the scene and brought all six lanes of traffic between J20 (Clevedon) and J21 (Weston-super-Mare) to a halt.
These delays were ongoing all through the morning into the early afternoon, with the Automobile Association reporting a 'police incident' as the vague reason for delays and a partial closure of the motorway.
The reason for this closure has now been explained in a statement issued by Avon and Somerset Police today (Thursday, May 7).

The M5 motorway has now reopened, and traffic is running as normal.
