M74 northbound to close for three nights near Glasgow

The closures will affect the northbound M74[1] between Junctions 1A and 1 at the Port Eglinton Viaduct from Wednesday, May 6, to Saturday, May 9. Work will take place between 8pm and 6am each night to allow for the replacement of expansion joints. The repairs, carried out by Amey[2] on behalf of Transport Scotland[3], will require full overnight closures of the northbound carriageway.

A diversion will be in place for northbound motorway traffic travelling beyond Junction 1 towards the M8 westbound. The route will direct drivers via Polmadie Road, Calder Street, Aitkenhead Road, Cathcart Road, Lauriston Road, Ballater Street, Norfolk Street, Nelson Street, Morrison Street, Patterson Street, Wallace Street and Dalintober Street, rejoining the motorway network at the M8 westbound Junction 21 on-slip. The diversion is only intended for those continuing on the motorway network.

An additional closure will affect the northbound on-slip at Junction 1A during the works. Traffic usually joining the M74 at Junction 1A will be diverted via Polmadie Road, New Rutherglen Road, Caledonia Road and Cathcart Road before joining the main diversion route. Emergency vehicles will retain access throughout.

Amey has reminded drivers that plans may change depending on weather[4] conditions. A spokesperson for Amey said: "Please note, all schemes are weather dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled if weather conditions are not favourable."
