M57 updates as ‘serious crash’ closes motorway and Switch Island ‘until midnight’

Part of the M57 southbound between junction seven at Aintree and junction six at Kirkby is still closed after a serious crash earlier this evening. Police first recieved a report about the incident at 5.35pm.

The crash took place at junction seven and involved a grey Jaguar and a silver Mercedes, which reared off the motorway. A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said at 7.38pm that the driver of the Mercedes was being treated by paramedics at the scene and added that "further updates will be issued when appropriate."

Traffic England are predicting the road will not reopen until around 4.45am tomorrow morning.
