Hour-long M5 traffic queues after Devon oil spill
The M5 has reopened after an oil spill on the motorway caused traffic chaos in Devon today (Saturday, May 16). Two lanes were closed on the southbound carriageway and queues stretched back for about three miles past Exeter, following a spill at junction 31. Traffic monitor Inrix reported two lanes were closed this morning and National Highways said there were delays of around one hour in the area.
As of 4pm, all lane closures had been lifted but drivers still faced 30 minute delays. National Highways said: "All lanes are now open on the M5 southbound between J30 and J31 near Exeter following an earlier oil spillage. There are delays of 30 minutes and approx.
1 mile of congestion on the approach."
