A249 Sittingbourne Road between Detling and Stockbury to shut for overnight resurfacing works

A key road is set to close overnight for more than a week. Kent County Council (KCC) said the closure of the A249 Sittingbourne Road, from Detling to Stockbury, was necessary while resurfacing work is carried out.

A long section of the A249 will be closed overnight, in the north-bound direction only

It will impact the northbound (Sittingbourne direction) carriageway between the M20, Junction 7 interchange and the junction with Church Hill. The road will be closed between 9pm and 5am, starting tomorrow evening (Tuesday, May 5), with work expected to finish on the morning of Tuesday, May 19.

Despite this, there are conflicting schedules for the end of the closure, with One Network reporting that it may be in place from tomorrow until Friday, May 22, from 8pm to 6am. However, KCC sent a letter to residents in the area to say the road will only be closed Monday to Friday, with weekends open as usual. The authority warns that the side roads - Pilgrims Way, Scragged Oak Road, Bimbury Lane and Chalky Road - may also be closed from time to time.
