It looks the same as an OEM to me.
The Javouka unit for vehicles such as the Citron Berlingo and Peugeot 3008 is a pre assembled unit designed to simplify suspension repairs by combining the knuckle, wheel bearing, and hub into a single part.
Fitting a pre-assembled unit is significantly easier than traditional bearing replacement because it bypasses the need for a hydraulic press, which is otherwise required to press old bearings out and new in. While such assemblies remove the hardest press work, you still need quite a tool kit including a torque wrench.
Quite often on older Berlingo or Partner models, the pinch bolts and driveshaft nuts are heavily corroded. It might well be necessary to use a wire brush and a good soaking in WD-40 before they’ll loosen.
A common issue is ABS errors if the snap ring is not positioned correctly. A slight adjustment with a drift may be needed if the sensor doesn’t clear properly. The axle nut must be torqued precisely to maintain bearing preload and prevent premature failure.
As far as I can see, this assembly is equally as well made as the OEM. It’s identical to look at and fits as perfectly. There is one very big difference though. The price. Expect to pay several hundred pounds from the main dealer. This one from Javouka is 85.99.
Does the job - but not easy!
Having watched the procedure for doing a wheel bearing change on a Berlingo, changing the complete assembly seems much simpler than removing the assembly and removing / refitting the wheel bearing. That said, this is not a job for the faint hearted! Tension from the coil spring makes fitting the new assembly a real challenge. As others have said, you will need a good range of tools, not least the 35/36 mm socket (I can’t remember which!) for releasing / replacing the wheel bearing nut. Fortunately I have a 3/4 drive set of large sockets.
I also found the machine face around the 2 pinch bolts has a gap along the edges where they butt up against the suspension arm, whereas the original was a neat fit. Having said that, it’s the location of the 2 pinch bolt holes in relation to the other holes that is critical, so a gap is not a show stopper.
To sum up, be prepared for a challenge, especially if doing the job on your drive, as I did. A car lift would have been a big bonus!!.. Also the price was great. (I received a 20% Amazon discount).
Good Quality
Fitted this to my 2010 Peugeot 308 about two months back after the original bearing started humming badly. Part numbers matched what was listed in my service book so went ahead and ordered it.
Installation took about an hour and a half with basic tools – nothing complicated if you’ve done suspension work before. Fitted straight on without any messing about with alignment or bolt holes.
Build quality seems decent. Bearing turns smoothly with no play, and there’s been no noise since fitting. The metal finish looks similar to the original part, no obvious rust starting yet despite winter weather and road salt.
Two months isn’t long enough to judge longevity properly, but so far it’s doing exactly what it should. No wobbles, no grinding, steering feels normal.
Good value compared to main dealer pricing. Does the job for PSA group cars.
