Police make arrest after 51 offences clocked on motorways

The Roads Policing Tasking Team have been patrolling the M40 and M25 during this week as part of Operation Treacher. An unmarked police motorcycle was used, allowing a police biker to spot numerous people committing traffic[1] offences. These offenders were then stopped and dealt with by other members of the Thames Valley Police team.

TVP also reported three drivers without insurance, two without a license, one with a contravened red light and another with excessive tints. In total, three vehicles were also seized for having either no insurance or licence. A spokesperson for Thames Valley Police said: "These Op Treacher deployments are 'business as usual' for our team and will happen regularly across our strategic road network and also within our towns and cities.

"The Fatal Five offences (impaired driving, distracted driving, careless driving, not wearing a seatbelt and excess speed) together are responsible for around 90 per cent of collisions resulting in death or serious injury on our roads, which is why we are taking such a proactive stance in dealing with offenders.

"Anyone of the people stopped today could have gone on to cause or be involved in a fatal collision, and it is the aim of our team to reduce harm on the roads as much as is possible.

"The above offences were committed by a small number of people on our roads; so to the law-abiding majority of drivers out there today, thank you for doing your bit to keep our roads safe."
