Well, colour me impressed, although thankfully not with the ink! My Pixma TS7450i has accepted these Inkwellz replacements as if they were royalty and they slotted into place without a murmur. I can print out pages and pages, signs almost floating before my eyes at the savings. The colours are vivid too, leaping off the page in a way that says they mean business, and the black text is as crisp as a freshly minted 10 note. It’s almost unsettling that something so reasonable could work this well so my inner cheapskate is utterly triumphant, and my printer hasn’t yet thrown a tantrum about non-genuine cartridges. The whole thing feels delightfully efficient, which is a worryingly unspontaneous thing to say about ink, but there we are.

This brings me to a rather peculiar, almost mystical aspect of this Inkwellz ink experience, which has an irony so thick I could print a landscape with it: The vanishing eraser. Yes, the official listing proclaims you get ‘1 x Eraser’ nestled in the box. Now, my package arrived without such an item inside it which itself is something profoundly, beautifully perfect – an item specifically designed for making things disappear being the one thing that has, well, disappeared. Did it erase itself? Maybe! I had to ask myself why would Inkwellz want to include one anyway, I mean, unless the INKWELLZ people have unlocked a secret function where their non-toxic water-based ink can be easily, and instantly, erased from a printed page without a trace, I am at a complete and utter loss here. The only real practical, yet bizarre, possibility I can imagine, albeit a very unlikely one, is that maybe, just maybe, it was intended as a tool to somehow clean the print head contacts, although that seems like an incredibly risky game of Russian roulette to me, what with delicate microelectronics and static, and not a recommended way to clean contacts as far as I know. It’s a real, genuine head scratcher and a wonderfully odd piece of marketing fiction, in my case at least, although others may in fact find an eraser included in the box, and there may be a box out there with two erasers inside. As things stand, it’s a modern printer ink mystery

Anyway, these ink cartridges feel like the kind of sensible purchase that makes you feel like you’ve won a tiny, ink-filled victory over the corporate overlords, so if you enjoy a bit of a Erwin Schrdinger mystery as much as I do, and you possess a compatible printer, I’d say this pack is a sterling bet. Although, there’s no accounting for taste, so you might miss the thrill of overspending. Currently, 37.88 which I think is very reasonable.
