National Highways has announced a sudden postponement[1] to the scheduled closure[2] of the M62[3] to replace part of Scammonden Bridge, citing significant concerns raised by the community.
The structure, which carries the B6114 across the M62 between junctions 22 for Denshaw, Oldham[4], and 24 for Huddersfield near Scammonden Reservoir, is a vital transport link connecting Huddersfield and Calderdale.
The existing aluminium parapet is due to be replaced with a steel one to keep the structure safe.

Plans had originally called for a complete closure of the bridge beginning on April 20, with the restriction intended to last through October while crews carried out the essential repair work.
Following what the agency described as "customer feedback", officials have decided to put the project on hold.
A statement on the National Highways website reads: "Following feedback from residents, businesses and landowners, we've delayed the start of this scheme while we develop a revised programme of work.
"The updated plan will aim to maintain access over the bridge wherever possible, though there will still be some periods of restricted access."

Engineering teams are currently tasked with developing a revised schedule that prioritizes maintaining access over the bridge whenever feasible.
While the full, months-long closure has been shelved, National Highways warned that the project will still require periods of restricted access.
The agency noted that short, temporary closures may still be necessary at times to allow for the installation of traffic management systems and to ensure safety protocols for workers on the site.
