M4 Mercedes ‘swerving between lanes’ causes police alarm
Police officers from Avon and Somerset Police were alerted to reports of the driver travelling westbound near junction 18 at around 2pm on Sunday, April 19. The vehicle was stopped at 2.23pm further along the motorway, between junctions 21 and 22. A man was then arrested on suspicion of drink driving and taken into custody.
A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police said: "We'd like to thank more than a dozen people who called in to report a suspected drink driver on the M4 today, Sunday 19 April. "Avon and Somerset police officers were first alerted just after 2pm by callers reporting a black Mercedes swerving across lanes of the M4 westbound near junction 18 (Bath). "Specialist roads policing officers attended and safely stopped the vehicle between junctions 21 (Awkley) and 22 (Pilning) at 2.23pm.
A man was later arrested on suspicion of drink driving and remains in police custody.
"Thanks to the information from members of the public, officers were able to act promptly, and no collisions or injuries have been reported.
