Driver banned after being caught speeding on M27 at 59mph
George Barrett was given a six-month points disqualification after being slapped with three notional penalty points for breaching a temporary 50mph speed restriction on the M27. This occurred when he was driving his Mercedes on the eastbound lane of the motorway between junctions nine and 11, between Whiteley and Fareham[1], on June 30, 2025. The 31-year-old of Collington Crescent, Portsmouth, must also pay a GBP120 fine, a surcharge of GBP64 and court costs of GBP130.
His case was heard at Southampton Magistrates' Court on March 26, 2026.
The M27 has seen temporary 50mph speed limits in place for some time, as motorway improvements are carried out.
