A LEGACY OF INNOVATION SINCE 1967
Richard Allen (pictured left in 1972) founded Allen in his garage in 1967. A former aerospace engineer, Richard began building a prototype bicycle carrier in his Lincoln, Massachusetts workshop during his spare time. His first trunk-mounted rack—constructed from electrical conduit, metal strapping, and fire hose casing used as protective padding—was thoroughly tested on weekend trips to Cape Cod. After proving the concept, Richard brought the design to market, and by 1971 Allen had established a national presence.
Today, Allen remains a family-owned company committed to producing high-quality, easy-to-use bicycle transport and outdoor mobility products. The company holds dozens of patents and operates design, manufacturing, distribution, and sales facilities serving markets across North America, Europe, the United Kingdom, the Middle East, China, and Latin America.
