Reliable backup for charging on the go
Designed for peace of mind, this portable charger is a decent piece of equipment to keep in the boot for trips away. It comes in a smart black zippered storage bag that keeps the cable tidy, which is much better than having it tangled up in the back of the car. It plugs straight into a standard UK mains socket, making it incredibly useful for those times when you visit friends or have a break away from home at a place where there isn’t a permanent charger available.
The unit itself feels well constructed and surprisingly lightweight for its size. One of the most practical features is the switchable current; you can opt for a slightly faster charge when time is tight or stick to a slower trickle charge if you aren’t in a hurry. Although the 5m cable is sufficient for many driveways, it is a bit on the short side. in my opinion. A length of 7.5m would be more versatile for those awkward parking situations where the socket isn’t close enough to the car.
The inclusion of a delay timer is a massive plus. It allows you to set the car to start charging at times when cheaper tariffs kick in. It loses one star simply because of the cable length, but it remains an excellent, wellmade solution for emergency or travel charging.
Love the adjustable current settings
I’ve been using this portable EV charger at home with a standard 3-pin socket, and it’s been practical for everyday charging. The adjustable current settings are useful — I usually set it lower when I’m unsure about the socket load, and increase it when I need a quicker top-up. Having that flexibility gives a bit more confidence.
The delayed charging feature works well for scheduling overnight sessions during off-peak hours. It starts and stops automatically as expected, and the LCD screen is clear and easy to read, even in low light.
Build quality feels solid. The cable is thick and durable, and the control box seems well protected. I’ve used it outdoors in light rain without issues thanks to the IP65 protection.
