A European beauty queen tragically plunged to her death after falling from a bridge onto a motorway below while fleeing police.

Guler Erdogan[2], 27, is said to have fallen 50ft as she escaped from officers after the catwalk model was stopped for alleged drunk driving in Giresun, Turkey, on April 1.

The 'Miss Europe-Kosovo' title holder was said to have been more than three times over the limit following a night out in her home town to celebrate Eid with her family, The Sun[3] reports.

She then went on to a nightclub with friends before driving home, but she was stopped at a police checkpoint, where officers recorded a blood level of 1.70mg per 100ml, according to CNN[4] Turkey.

In Turkey, the legal limit is 0.5mg per 100ml.

Fearing she could be in trouble, Erdogan is said to have left her car and ran towards a nearby overpass.

But she lost her balance and fell over the edge onto a six-lane motorway below.

Moments later, she was tragically struck by an oncoming car.

Footage from the scene shows a huge emergency response with multiple police vehicles and ambulances arriving at the location.

But despite the best efforts of medics, Erdogan was pronounced dead at the scene.

Turkish police have launched an investigation into the accident.

Erdogan had a large presence on social media and had amassed 56,000 followers on Instagram.

But in the wake of her death, her account has been scrubbed with all her posts removed.

There is now only a lone statement from her family, which disputes details surrounding the model's death.

It states: 'Do not believe the false news and information regarding the death of our daughter, sister, and friend Guler Erdogan.

'Our sister lost her life as a result of a tragic accident.

As her family, we were by her side at the time of the incident.'
