Custom Renault D12 skip truck starts service at Coastal Recycling

Devon-based waste and recycling firm Coastal Recycling has added a new Renault Trucks D12 to its fleet, chosen for its ability to handle tight spaces often found on commercial and residential routes.

The D12 joins Coastal Recycling's expanding Renault line-up, which already includes two 6x4 tractor units (23-plate) and an 18-tonne skip lorry. An additional D18 Wide skip truck and a C520 8x4 Ro-Ro are also on the way, further demonstrating the company's preference for Renaults across its 44-strong fleet.

Developed in collaboration with Sparks Commercial Services, the D12 has been customised to meet the company's day-to-day operational needs. Its smaller footprint and ease of manoeuvrability make it well-suited for working in more confined environments.

Marc Williamson, transport manager at Coastal Recycling, said: "We opted for Renault Trucks due to our strong working relationship with Sparks and their expertise in delivering bespoke vehicle solutions.

After our positive experience with the artics, we had full confidence in their ability to specify the new D12 to our exact needs.

Given the nature of our 12-tonne skip truck operations, maintaining a compact design was essential, and Sparks delivered the perfect solution."

He added: "Elliot Tratt at Sparks provided excellent support throughout the process, keeping us informed at every stage of the build and ensuring the specification was spot on."

The D12 includes rear air suspension to help with clearance in tight spots, and aspect wheels to reduce its width over the rear.

It also features the Webb TA8000 extra reach skip handler, a compact system designed to work in restricted spaces.

Now in service, the D12 is already proving effective across Devon. "Feedback from the driver team has been positive, with particular praise for its driveability and manoeuvrability," said Marc.

Servicing, inspections, and MOTs will be handled by Sparks Exeter under Renault Trucks' maintenance package.
