Woman killed and man injured in three-car M6 crash

The 67-year-old, from Liverpool, was driving of one of three cars which collided on the M6 southbound near junction 16, for Crewe, on Monday, March 24. Cheshire Police, paramedics from North West Ambulance Service, and National Highways responded to reports of the crash at 6.30pm. The crash involved red Hyundai, a silver BMW, and a black Mercedes.

Despite the best efforts of all involved, the woman, who was driving the Hyundai, was pronounced dead. The driver of the BMW, a 51-year-old man from Staffordshire, sustained minor injuries and was taken to hospital as a precaution. The driver of the Mercedes, a 41-year-old man from Stoke-on-Trent, sustained no injuries.

The crash caused huge tailbacks on the motorway as it remained closed all evening while the incident was deal with. It didn't fully reopen until around 2am on Tuesday, March 25. Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances and officers would like anyone who witnessed what happened to get in touch with them.

Lead investigator, Detective Inspector Steve Griffiths from Cheshire Police's serious collision investigation unit, said: "The M6 is one of the main routes running through Cheshire and this incident occurred at a busy time of day. "We are urging anyone who witnessed it to come forward. "We would also like to ask any motorists with dashcam footage from around the time of the incident to get in touch."
