Blackwall Tunnel closes as lorry crash causes severe delays

The Blackwall Tunnel was part-closed for more than four hours due to a crash this morning (March 10). Police confirmed a lorry collided with part of the tunnel at around 8.50am. No one was injured during the incident but the southbound road remained shut until approximately 2.15pm.

Drivers were severely delayed, with congestion tailing back to Bow along the A12 and to Limehouse on the A13. Long queues were also reported at the northbound exit on to the A13. There was heavy traffic around the Rotherhithe Tunnel and Tower Bridge as a result.

A separate police incident where a man climbed the suspension of Tower Bridge caused further chaos. Motorists were advised to avoid both areas. The 108 and 115 bus routes were also diverted, with London Underground accepting bus tickets in Zones 2, 3 and 4.
