Air ambulance called to crash between van and lorry that closed Cambs A-road

A crash between a lorry and a van closed a Cambridgeshire A-road in both directions on Thursday morning (March 6). The crash was first reported at around 7.20am. The A1 in Stibbington was shut, with severe delays of up to 60 minutes reported on the Great North Road southbound carriageway.

There was also congestion to the Wittering turn off. Emergency services, including police and ambulance, were called to the scene. Two people were taken to hospital and motorists were advised to avoid the area and find other routes.

A spokesperson for East of England Ambulance Service added: "We were called at 7.23am with reports of a collision on the A1 near Stibbington. We sent a Magpas Air Ambulance response car, two ambulances, a critical care vehicle and an ambulance officer vehicle. "One person was taken to Addenbrooke's Hospital and one person was taken to Peterborough City Hospital."[1]

The road reopened at around 1.30pm that afternoon (March 6). Delays soon started to ease. To get more breaking news and top stories delivered directly to your phone, join our new WhatsApp community. Click this link[2] to receive your daily dose of CambridgeshireLive content.
