A man from Liverpool was seriously injured after his motorbike was involved in a crash. Shortly after 5pm on Thursday, February 27 Cheshire Police were called to reports of a crash on the westbound carriageway of Speke Road, between Ditton Road and Hale Road in Widnes.[1][2][3][4]

Police and paramedics attended the scene and on arrival they found there had been a crash between a HGV, a silver Renault Megane and a red and white motorbike.

The rider of the motorbike, a 40-year-old man from Liverpool, sustained serious injuries. He was taken to Aintree Hospital[5] where he remains at this time.

There were no reports of any other injuries, police said.

Speke Road was closed westbound from Mersey Gateway bridge to Everite Road due to the incident. Pictures taken by the ECHO[6] at the scene this morning show long queues stretching to the Mersey Gateway Bridge[7] and also the Silver Jubilee Bridge.

It appears that police are repairing the road following the crash. Traffic monitoring site Inrix said the road has been closed since around 6pm last night due to accident investigation work.

Enquiries in relation to the crash are ongoing and officers are keen to hear from anyone with any information or video footage which may aid their investigation.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Cheshire Police on 101 or visit www.cheshire.police.uk/tell-us[8] quoting IML-2036639.
