Major road closed with emergency services on scene after ‘serious accident’

A major Stockport road has been closed northbound this morning following a 'serious accident' involving a lorry and pedestrian. Emergency services are on the A34 Kingsway near Cheadle on Wednesday (February 26). The road is closed between B5358 Wilmslow Road (Cheadle Royal) to A560 Gatley Road (Gatley Traffic Lights), with queues building.
Witnesses report a huge emergency services presence with police, fire crews, and paramedics on the scene. North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) has confirmed a patient was taken to hospital with 'serious injuries'. "We were called at 6.15 this morning to reports of an incident involving a vehicle and a pedestrian," they said. "We sent a number of resources to the scene, including a rapid response vehicle, an ambulance and a several senior clinicians.
"We treated a patient on scene and took them to hospital with serious injuries." As of 8.30am, Inrix said: "A34 Kingsway Northbound closed, long delays due to serious accident, a lorry involved from B5358 Wilmslow Road (Cheadle Royal) to A560 Gatley Road (Gatley Traffic Lights). Congestion to Handforth.
Queues on opposite side likely due to onlookers." Greater Manchester Police (GMP) and Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) have been contacted for more information. This is a live event.
