Wynnstay wins with new Renault C off-roaders
Wynnstay plc, a top supplier of agricultural products and services, has expanded its 96-strong HGV fleet by adding eight Renault Trucks C440 Off Road models--two tridems and six 8x4s--with one more tridem on the way based on how well these perform.
Diamond Trucks Warrington supplied the trucks, which come with Muldoon bulk blowing tipping bodies. These vehicles are now part of Wynnstay's bulk haulage operation, delivering animal feed to farms.
Explaining the switch to Renault Trucks, Ged Young, group distribution director, said: "I was seeking an alternative marque for our replacement vehicles. The decision to add Renault Trucks to our fleet was driven by several factors, including total cost of ownership, durability, availability, lead time, and their strong reputation."
Manoeuvrability was a major factor since these trucks spend 30-40% of their time navigating farms with rough terrain and tight spaces.
The C440 tridems, with their factory-fitted extra axle adaption, are especially handy here. They have shorter wheelbases and better turning circles than standard 8x4 trucks, making it easier to access tricky sites.
To handle rutted farm tracks, the trucks come with Renault's high construction bumper for better ground clearance. The cabs also feature four-point air suspension and ride-height control for stability and comfort on uneven ground.
Under the hood, the C440s have Renault's efficient 13-litre engine, delivering 440 hp and 2200 Nm of torque.
This is paired with the Optidriver AT 2612 gearbox.
Since the trucks are often out for up to four nights a week, they're equipped with sleeper cabs loaded with extras like memory foam mattresses, leather upholstery, and ample storage, making them a hit with drivers.
"Renault Trucks has made the best efforts to look after the driver... and the drivers love them!" Ged concluded.
