Suspect charged with leading police on high-speed M6 chase

At around 2.45am yesterday morning, Thursday, Cheshire Police received reports of a black Volkswagen Amarok Highline swerving on the M6 southbound and crashing into cones. This was near to junction 19 for Knutsford and Northwich at Tabley, with officers from the force's roads and crime unit deployed. The vehicle was sighted at junction 18 for Middlewich, which police reportedly attempted to stop, but the driver was said to have made off at speed, before exiting the motorway at junction 17 for Sandbach.

The police helicopter was scrambled and a pursuit was subsequently authorised, with officers following the car as it reportedly travelled at speed through residential areas towards Middlewich. A police stinger was said to have been used to slow the vehicle, and the pursuit was subsequently brought to a safe conclusion on Honiton Way in Middlewich. It was reported that the driver initially attempted to flee the scene, but he was quickly located.

A 35-year-old man from Tonypandy, near Cardiff in south Wales, was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, failing to stop for officers and failing to provide a specimen.
