Traffic was stopped at Simister Island following a lorry crash. Queues were building on the M60 clockwise, approaching the M62 eastbound at junction 18. Greater Manchester Police said a collision involving two lorries was reported at around 8.30am this morning (January 16).
Eyewitnesses say traffic was held on the motorway at around 9.30am. One eyewitness said: "Traffic's being held on the M62 eastbound at junction 18, heading out towards Rochdale. you've got two traffic officers, vehicles, holding traffic travelling eastbound on the M60/M62. "It's causing massive tailbacks, easily for at least a mile." There are also currently delays on the westbound M62 approaching Simister Island.
On the M60 clockwise, queues are tailing back past Prestwich at junction 17. No injuries were reported in the collision, GMP says. All lanes have now reopened, but some queues remain on the M60.
