Lorry jackknifes on M1 as drivers face hold-ups on motorway
Two separate lane closures were put in place on the M1 northbound as snowy conditions caused significant travel disruption. Three lanes were closed[1] due to an accident on the M1 Northbound from J30 A616 for Worksop/ Sheffield South to the J31 A57 Worksop[2] Road. Another two lanes were closed due to what traffic monitoring service Inrix described as a "jackknifed lorry and snow" in the same area.
It reported the lorry was on the northbound side, while two lanes were closed southbound due to snow. By the afternoon of Sunday, January 5, both incidents had been cleared and all M1 lanes in the area were open. While snow on the southern part of the motorway shut two lanes for more than three hours, it did not result in much traffic and was resolved by 12am.
