Turning 50 Cordless Drills Into an Electric Engine Takes a Lot of Work, This Video Shows Why
We know that cordless drills use a rechargeable battery to power an electric motor, which then converts the electrical energy into mechanical rotation to turn the drill bit in the chuck, but what if you were to turn 50 of them into an electric engine[1] of sorts?

The crew over at Garage 54 attempted to do just that, and they've somewhat succeeded. This required a custom fabricated metal chassis to mount the drills, metal posts to secure them, and then figuring out how to sync all of them up.
As for the latter, they first tried simply rewiring them, but quickly realized that each battery actually had to be connected directly to a motor. From what we can see, part two of this build will be even more interesting.

The most important thing is that the control boards will also have a low-voltage cutoff; without the control board, you can drain the lithium battery too low, and it may catch fire. The biggest risk is recharging them.
