Serious crash between lorry and truck closes road for hours

A major Nottinghamshire A-road was closed[1] for hours after a serious crash between a lorry and a recovery truck. One person sustained life-threatening injuries[2] during the collision on the A46, which happened near Blue Diamond Garden and Home Centre in East Bridgford at around 11.35am on Thursday, December 12. Road closures were put in place between the A52[3] Saxondale Island northbound and the A46 southbound from Newark[4].

Nottinghamshire Police investigated the crash scene for hours before specialist recovery teams could move the vehicles involved. This allowed the southbound carriageway to re-open at roughly 8.15pm. There was also a substantial fuel spillage on the carriageway and verge which required specialist treatment.

The collision and resulting spillage meant that emergency resurfacing was required on the northbound carriageway.

This will be carried out overnight, according to National Highways.
