Prosecution launched after man died in collision with bin lorry at Bradford site

West Yorkshire[1] Police confirmed a man died after being involved in a collision with a bin lorry at the Biffa Transfer Station on Peace Street, Laisterdyke, on Thursday, August 10, 2023. The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has since started a prosecution against Biffa Waste Services Limited. Biffa says it continues to cooperate with the HSE.

The company is accused of breaching several regulations. A date for the first hearing will be confirmed in due course, the HSE confirmed.

A Biffa spokesperson said: "Our thoughts remain with the family and friends of the deceased. "We continue to cooperate with the Health and Safety Executive, and it would not be appropriate to comment further at this stage[2]."

A spokesperson for the Health and Safety Executive said: "HSE has commenced a prosecution against Biffa Waste Services Limited following an investigation into the death of a worker at its transfer station in Bradford on 10 August 2023.

"The company is accused of breaching Regulations 3(1)(a), 3(1)(b) and 5(1) of the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999.

"A date for the first hearing will be confirmed in due course."
