Pedestrian, 70, dies after being struck by lorry

A pensioner was killed in a crash with a lorry in Darwen[1]. The 70-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene on the A666 Bolton Road, Lancashire[2] Police said. Officers were called at 10.47am on Monday, December 9) to a report[3] of a road traffic collision.

On arrival, they found that a DAF HGV had been in collision with a pedestrian in the carriageway. The road was closed for several hours on Monday (December 9) while emergency services remained at the scene. Officers are now appealing for anyone who saw what happened to get in touch.

Sgt Daniel Gunn of our Road Policing Unit, said: "My thoughts at this very sad time are with the man's family and loved ones. They are being supported by specially trained family liaison officers. "As part of the investigation, we are appealing for witnesses to the collision and to anyone who has dashcam footage from the area around the time it happened."

Bolton Road was closed near the junctions with Church Street and Green Street, with drivers advised to use alternative routes. The road reopened at just before 3pm.
