M26 lorry fire blocks motorway causing long delays
Drivers are facing heavy traffic on the M26 this morning (Thursday, December 12) as a stretch of the motorway has been forced to close due to a lorry fire. The coastbound carriageway is currently blocked between Junction 2a and the M25[1]. Long queues are building on approach as a result.
National Highways has confirmed that emergency services, including crews from Kent Fire and Rescue Service[2], are in attendance. Traffic and travel monitoring service Inrix reports that there is just over two miles of trapped traffic stuck behind the incident. Highways cameras at the scene show drivers contending with gridlock conditions along this stretch of the M26.
It is not yet known when the motorway is expected to re-open or if the fire has resulted in any injuries being reported. KentLive[3] has approached emergency services for further information.
