A1M crash victim may have had a dog with her on carriageway
At around 4.40am (December 21), a "black SUV-type vehicle" was seen on the hard shoulder of the southbound A1M between junctions 4 (Hatfield) and 5 (Welwyn Garden City). A woman was then seen on the carriageway, where she appears to have been struck by a car. Emergency services were only able to locate the seriously injured woman, who has been taken to hospital where she is being treated, when they arrived at the scene and Herts Police officers are now working to trace any vehicles involved and their occupants.
DC Felicity Walker said: "If you were driving on the A1M in the area at this time and saw anything that you think could be significant, please contact us as soon as possible. "We believe the woman may have had a dog with her when she was in the carriageway. "If you travelled through this area and you had a dash cam in operation, please check it as soon as possible.
"Even if you do not remember seeing anything at the time, your dash cam may have captured evidence which would be important to us." The motorway was closed in both directions until around 9am and remained shut southbound until around 10.45am. Dash cam footage can be shared with police by uploading it to https://upload.5fdams.aetopia.net?ref=76G8M3.
