Xiaomi presents electric drive with four motors

The new drive system has an output of 1,511 kW, the equivalent of over 2,000 hp. The EV has two 'Super Motor V8s' units, each delivering up to 425 kW. It is the same motor used in the SU7 Ultra[1].

The two additional motors added will likely not be 'Super Motor V6s' (installed on the front axle in the SU7 Ultra), as it has an output of 288 kW. To reach the 1,511 kW, the front motors need to offer 661 kW - so even two 'Super Motor V8s' would not be enough. However, it could be a further development from this engine family.

The three-motor drive from the SU7 Ultra already enables torque vectoring, i.e. the active distribution of torque between the outer and inner wheels in a bend.

With the quad-motor drive, the vehicle (like other electric cars with such a system, such as the electric G-Class from Mercedes) can turn on the spot - for example, if the wheels on the right-hand side are turned backwards and those on the left-hand side are turned forwards.

Xiaomi has not yet presented any further details about the four-motor drive. That is because the focus was on other functions, such as the intelligent chassis, which relies on seven suspension struts and active actuators. It enables functions such as the car 'dancing' for show purposes but also offers advantages in terms of control and, above all, comfort when driving.

It is also said that Xiaomi wants to make such "high-performance capabilities to a broader market." So there seems to be a chance that Xiaomi will offer its chassis technology in its generation of electric cars.

The chassis, which also uses Bosch components, is said to have a lifting force of over 44,000 newtons. That means the chassis of an SU7 Max weighing around 2.2 tonnes could even lift two such cars. The maximum lift is 140 millimetres.

Xiaomi will also launch its own 48-volt system.

It supports line-controlled braking and steering systems with 48 instead of 12 volts. Here, hydraulic and mechanical linkages were replaced by software-driven controls. The steering and braking forces can be adjusted depending on the driving conditions to increase control and comfort.

The 48-volt braking system should also contribute to energy efficiency and improve the range - albeit only by around ten kilometres.
